Tottenham eyeing prodigious River Plate youngster; formal enquiry made

Tottenham make formal enquiries about the contract situation of River Plate young talent Ian Subiabre
Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Thomas Frank to not only change the club’s fortunes but also develop youngsters, along with the well-established players. Spurs have an exciting array of young talent in their squad, and the 51-year-old will be extremely excited to get the chance to nurture and unlock their true potential.
Daniel Levy has adopted the transfer strategy of investing heavily in youth in recent years, which has been evidenced with the signings of Destiny Udogie, Pape Matar Sarr, Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert, Antonin Kinsky and Mathys Tel. He will want to continue that approach this summer as well after turning Tel’s loan deal into a permanent affair from Bayern Munich.
It looks like the North Londoners are looking to raid the South American market to expand their pool of young talent at the club. According to a report from River Noticias, Tottenham are interested in signing River Plate prodigy Ian Subiabre. They have made formal enquiries about the young forward’s contract situation on Monday.

Ian Subiabre joined River Plate’s youth system in 2022 and made his way into their first team in 2024. The forward was part of Argentina’s squad at the U20 South American Championship earlier this year. He has been a part of River Plate’s Club World Cup squad, although the teenager is yet to clock a minute.
Despite mainly being used as a substitute this past season, Subiabre’s performances have caught the attention of Spurs. The aforementioned report adds the Argentinean youth international has a €26.1m release clause in his contract that expires in December 2026. However, Tottenham could present a ‘different offer plus different payment terms’, as well as propose a percentage of a future sale to River Plate.
Subiabre, who made 16 appearances in the league last season, remains a key player in Marcelo Gallardo’s side and the plan is to keep him at the club until at least mid-2026, unless a tempting offer arrives. Spurs have shown in recent years that they are not shy in splashing big to sign highly-regarded talents from the world with huge ceiling, and they could do something similar with the River Plate sensation as well.
A left-footed winger, the South American talent can operate on both flank with speed, dynamism and flair. Subiabre is also good in tight spaces and tends to dribble past teams that have a low block.
