Tottenham can financially benefit from contractual obligation as first XI ace continues to be linked with summer exit

Tottenham forward Heung-Min Son is heading for the exit doors amid Saudi transfer links
Tottenham forward Heung-Min Son finally managed to end the wait to win his first major trophy while donning the Lilywhite jersey last month. The South Korea international is idolised at N17, and quite rightly so. He has stepped up for the team time and again and proved his critics wrong week in week out during his 10-year stay at the club.
The 32-year-old’s patience and effort finally came into fruition as Spurs managed to win the Europa League against all odds. The historic achievement ended the club’s 17-year wait for a major trophy, and most of the credit should go to Son for believing in the club and delivering amazing performances under various managers at N17.

The South Korea international had many opportunities to leave north London during his 10-year stay at Hotspur Way. But the 32-year-old decided to stay put while other players gave up and headed for pastures new. In the end, it has all been worth the wait as the Spurs No.7 has etched his name in the club’s history books for all the right reasons.
Tottenham must keep Heung-Min Son for the time being due to contractual agreement
Tottenham are headed for a major rebuild in the summer under Thomas Frank. The Lilywhites need to bring in fresh faces to kickstart a new era at N17 after the Europa League success. And one of the players heading for a summer exit is Heung-Min Son. The South Korean is linked with a Saudi move and Spurs are wiling to cash-in on the winger if a suitable offer comes in.
However, the North London club cannot sell the 32-year-old before the pre-season game against Newcastle United in his home country due to contractual agreement. The Lilywhites must honour the contract that binds Son to N17 for the pre-season game, resulting in talks being stalled for his eventual transfer. Now, Dan Plumley has suggested that Spurs will benefit from the contractual agreement. Speaking to Tottenham News, Plumley said,
“Yes, absolutely. Especially if he’s contractually advised to play in it, then you can see why the club would be looking to hold on to him for that. The other side of this transfer situation is that Spurs will have their own internal numbers on this about how valuable he has been for them throughout the course of his time at Spurs off the pitch as well.”

The finance expert added,
“This is not the first time we’ve seen Spurs tour over there. It’s not the first time we’ve seen brand association links between Son and other partners that are connected to Spurs. It’s absolutely that off the pitch factor of the player, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he is contractually obliged to play in this tournament, and that if he is to leave, then that happens after said tournament.”
Dan Plumley has suggested that Tottenham will honour the contract keeping Heung-Min Son at the club for the friendly game. The finance expert also adds that the Lilywhites will calculate how valuable this might be for them off the pitch if they extend Son’s stay for the time being. Plumley insists that Spurs are only playing in South Korea due to the 32-year-old’s association with the country, and they will sell the winger only after the pre-season game is concluded.
