Tottenham make fresh contacts to sign Lille striker Jonathan David

Tottenham enter race to try and beat Napoli and Juventus to sign LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David

Tottenham Hotspur are working hard to improve the squad this summer after hiring Thomas Frank as a replacement for Ange Postecoglou.

Reinforcements in every area of the pitch are very much required after a tough 2024/25 campaign, which saw Spurs finish 17th in the Premier League on just 38 points. The North Londoners have agreed a shrewd £5m move for Kawasaki Frontale defender Kota Takai, after the permanent captures of Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel. However, more additions are required to compete on multiple fronts next term.

It is an open secret now that the Lilywhites need to bolster their attacking ranks after their last term’s struggles. With Richarlison and Son Heung-min facing uncertain futures at N17, Daniel Levy must do everything he can to replace the duo. The club may view Tel as a long-term successor for Son, but when it comes to Richarlison, they must offload the Brazilian and replace him with a reliable striker.

Blow for Tottenham as long-term transfer target harbours Barcelona ambitions.
Tottenham make fresh attempts to sign Jonathan David from Lille.

It was reported earlier that Spurs were interested in signing LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David. The Canada international is out of contract at LOSC next week, though is yet to make a decision about his next move. Now, Tottenham have received a boost in their efforts to pursue a deal for the centre-forward.

According to a report from Get Italian Football News, Tottenham have made new contacts to sign Lille striker Jonathan David. Juventus and Napoli have been trying to sign him but their progress has slowed down following the North Londoners’ fresh involvement in the race. They spoke with the 25-year-old’s entourage last week in a bid to lure him to N17.

The Brooklyn-born talent could be a smart addition, especially considering he’s available on a free transfer this summer. The centre-forward is one of the most sought-after free agents ever to come to the market, a 25-year-old who arguably still has his prime years ahead of him. He will be leaving Lille after five for the next step in his career, having scored over 100 goals.

Can Daniel Levy pull off Jonathan David’s signing on a potential free transfer from Lille?

If Tottenham manage to land his signature, it will be interesting to see whether David comes straight into Thomas Frank’s first XI, considering the club broke their transfer record last summer by signing Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth. One thing is for certain—the North American star would add potency and physicality to the Spurs attack whilst providing something different than Solanke.

With Frank often using two strikers at his former club Brentford, we could even potentially see Solanke and David up top at White Hart Lane.
