Tottenham face competition for £40m ‘homegrown’ star; top PL clubs keen to land him

Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey is facing an uncertain future as Tottenham links grow stronger
The pre-season is just around the corner and Tottenham have not yet signed their intended targets for next season. The Lilywhites were focused on sorting out their managerial situation during the initial weeks of the transfer window while other teams brought in reinforcements. Now, it seems like the train has left the station to bring in top players that would bolster the quality of the squad next season.
Daniel Levy recently put out a bold statement suggesting that Spurs are aiming to win the Premier League and the Champions League in the coming years. Well, it is easier said than done and the club chairman has still not shown any signs of delivering on that promise. By the looks of it, Thomas Frank is already being set up to fail at N17 as the Lilywhites look slow in bringing players in.

There is a clear need to sign some quality attackers for next season as the squad faces a massive revamp. The lack of depth in the final third of the pitch is also a major concern and fans will hope that the issues are addressed swiftly in the coming weeks.
Tottenham are willing to land Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey
Tottenham need to bring in versatile players who could play in various positions under Thomas Frank. The Danish tactician directs his team to play in different formations during games, and the right players who are comfortable playing multiple positions would thrive under the 51-year-old.
It was reported earlier that Spurs are interested in signing Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa in the summer. The 24-year-old has impressed during his time at Villa Park, and is facing an uncertain future at the club. The Birmingham-based club needs to sell some players in the coming weeks to stay below the PSR threshold, and selling Ramsey would help the club in registering a pure profit for next year due to his ‘homegrown’ status.
The aforementioned report had also suggested that the Villains are looking to recoup a fee of around £40m for the Englishman. However, Tottenham are not the only ones willing to sign the attacker now. As per Daily Mail, West Ham and Newcastle United are also interested in signing the 24-year-old in the summer. However, the asking price for Ramsey is deemed to be high for both clubs.
It remains to be seen how Spurs approach this deal as they look to bolster their attack for next season. Jacob Ramsey will fit in perfectly at N17 under Thomas Frank. He would instantly replace Heung-Min Son in the starting eleven, and take up the left-wing spot in the team. The Tottenham manager prefers his wingers to invert in during possession, and that would suit Ramsey’s game perfectly.

The Aston Villa star’s explosive pace and passing range will be key during counter-attacks, and the 24-year-old also tends to track back constantly while defending. His ability to win the ball back in the final third of the pitch will also help the Lilywhites launch a counter-press during games. Fans will hope that the North London club fends off competition and land the Englishman in the coming weeks.
