Tottenham offered chance to sign Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku

Tottenham have been offered a chance to sign Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku

Over the past few weeks, Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for several forwards in the Premier League.

Reports have claimed that Spurs were looking to land Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo this summer after Thomas Frank’s appointment as the new boss; however, the Cameroonian international has made it clear that if he leaves the Bees this summer it will only be for Manchester United.

Antoine Semenyo has also been linked with a move to White Hart Lane, but Bournemouth’s steep asking price proved to be an obstacle for the North Londoners. There has also been interest in Chelsea attacker Christopher Nkunku amid his uncertain future at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have signed Liam Delap from Ipswich Town earlier this summer transfer window, and are now closing in on the signings of Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro from Brighton and Hove Albion. These potential new arrivals, particularly Pedro, leave Christopher Nkunku surplus to requirements for boss Enzo Maresca.

Nkunku already struggled to establish himself in the first team under Maresca last season, starting just nine of 27 Premier League games. He did play 45 games across all competitions and delivered 17 goal contributions, but most of his outings came in cup competitions for the West Londoners. Now, the Blues have decided to offload the Frenchman.

According to a report from The Metro, Chelsea have offered Nkunku to Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United after they agreed a £60m deal with Brighton for Pedro. They are planning to cut their losses on the 27-year-old by willing to sell him at around £35m this summer.

Given Spurs are actively looking to offload Richarlison, and there is uncertainty surrounding the future of skipper Son Heung-min, signing Nkunku could actually make sense. A versatile forward capable of operating anywhere across the front line and also behind the No.9, the Frenchman possesses the technical attributes to flourish in Frank’s system.

He is not only a goalscorer but also a chance creator, with the ex-RB Leipzig star’s invention, trickery and flair more than capable of unlocking rigid defences. The France international could potentially form a strong partnership with Dominic Solanke up top, whilst giving a different dimension to the Tottenham attack. If Son departs, Nkunku would not be a bad option to replace him on the left flank.

Provided Man United and Arsenal do not take concrete steps to signing Nkunku and he manages to maintain his fitness levels, spending £35m to sign him from our rivals Chelsea would actually represent a smart deal for Tottenham.
