Tottenham could battle AC Milan for the signing of KAA Gent left-back Archie Brown
There is no surprise that Tottenham Hotspur are looking to revamp the defensive unit for next season.
The Lilywhites struggled at the back last season, with first-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven suffering long-term injuries for most parts of the campaign. This led to former boss Ange Postecoglou to use back-ups such as Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies in crucial games, and when they also got injured, he was forced to go for makeshift option in young Archie Gray.
Thus, adding a new centre-back has become an absolute must, even after the latest acquisition of the highly-rated Japanese prospect Kota Takai. This is because of Romero’s uncertain future at the club, as Atletico Madrid continues to seek his signature. In addition to a central defender, Spurs may have to also look out for a new left-back.

Recent reports suggested that Destiny Udogie has been coveted by Real Madrid and AC Milan. Spurs have no interest in selling their first-choice left-back this summer, but it looks like Udogie is open to joining AC Milan. If the Italian pushes for a move, the North Londoners may end up raiding a Belgian club for his potential replacement.
Tottenham have done their homework on English talent
According to a report from TBR Football, Tottenham have ‘done their work’ on KAA Gent left-back Archie Brown. The English defender is also on Milan’s radar, but Udogie remains their No.1 target to replace Theo Hernandez ahead of the new season.
Archie Brown, a former youth product of Derby County, has made a name for himself at KAA Gent. He has enjoyed two strong seasons in Belgium Pro League, displaying his industry, agility and pace from the left-back position. The former England Under-20 international may be keen on a return to England after gaining some valuable experience in Belgium.

At 23, Brown fits the bill perfectly at Tottenham. He isn’t at the level of Udogie but could be moulded into a fantastic full-back by Thomas Frank, who developed plenty of talents during his seven-year spell at Brentford. The lure of playing for a prestigious club like Spurs and competing in the Champions League next term could be too good to pass on for the Gent defender.
That being said, however, it will no doubt be a big gamble for Tottenham to go for Brown in case Udogie departs.
