Morgan Gibbs-White’s deal to Tottenham is on hold after Nottingham Forest raised the issue of illegal approach for their player
Tottenham Hotspur completed the signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United on Thursday, and on the same day, they agreed to trigger the £60m release clause in Morgan Gibbs-White’s contract at Nottingham Forest.
Morgan Gibbs-White was scheduled to complete his medical at N17 on Friday, before Spurs encountered an unforeseen situation. Reports emerged suggesting that Nottingham are preparing a formal complain to the Premier League over the North London club’s illegal approach of the English playmaker without their permission.
This has put a potential deal for the 25-year-old in jeopardy, dealing a big blow to Tottenham in their bid to sign him. Gibbs-White was a star performer for Nottingham Forest last season, helping the club clinch UEFA Europa Conference League qualification. Over the past 24 hours, several outlets have claimed that the England international’s proposed move to Tottenham is still on course to happen despite Forest’s best efforts to delay it and seek legal action.

Reputed journalist gives the latest update on Morgan Gibbs-White’s deal
Reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Forest believes that Tottenham were not given permission to speak to Gibbs-White. They feel that Spurs did not go about meeting the release clause of their player in a legitimate manner.
However, the Italian added that the North Londoners remain adamant that they didn’t do anything wrong and they are still ‘confident’ of getting a deal for the 25-year-old done.
“Nottingham Forest have started working on legal action against Tottenham for Morgan Gibbs-White. They believe that the way they used to proceed with the release clause was not the correct way, that they were not authorised to speak to the player,” Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel.
“They were not happy at all at Nottingham Forest. They spoke to the Premier League about that. Now, the Premier League will investigate into this story.
“But Tottenham maintain their position. They are convinced about their behaviour. They want to proceed with the deal, they want to sign the player. Nottingham Forest are prepared to fight. So, let’s see what’s going to happen there.
“But, for sure, the Gibbs-White deal now has an issue to be solved between the two clubs. That’s going to be one to watch in the coming days and hours, with Tottenham still hopeful and confident to get the player.”

Forest, of course, remains dejected with how Tottenham made their approach for Gibbs-White. Spurs keep saying that they have followed all the right procedures and their behaviour in this situation has been correct. They remain confident to thrash out a deal for the ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder.
It remains to be seen whether the issue raised by Forest over Gibbs-White’s illegal approach is a temporary disruption or a deal-breaker. Tottenham fans can only hope that everything gets resolved quickly and our club manages to bring England’s rising star to North London.
