Tottenham have reignited their interest in Burnley defender Maxime Esteve
Tottenham Hotspur are ushering in a new era under Thomas Frank as the club navigates a crucial summer transfer window aimed at reshaping the squad for the upcoming season. With Champions League football secured for the 2025/26 campaign, there is a clear need for reinforcements following a disappointing 17th-place finish in the Premier League last term. So far, Spurs have made notable progress, converting Mathys Tel’s loan into a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich and securing the signings of Kota Takai and Mohammed Kudus.
However, uncertainty still looms over several players, including Cristian Romero, who continues to be linked with a move to La Liga. In response to the speculation surrounding the Argentine’s future, Tottenham have intensified their search for a new central defender within the Premier League.
Recent reports suggest that Spurs have reignited their interest in Burnley’s Maxime Estève. The young French defender was the subject of a €24 million bid from Tottenham late in the January window, but Burnley rejected the offer as they were determined to keep him for their promotion push.

With Burnley now promoted back to the Premier League, the club will be determined to retain their key players as they aim to establish themselves as top-flight regulars. Maxime Estève is seen as a vital part of that plan and would likely be a cornerstone of the starting XI if he remains at Turf Moor.
Injury expert endorses Tottenham move for Burnley defender
Now, Dr Rajpal Brar claims Esteve’s fitness record last season was exemplary and that should have no issues in clearing his medical at Tottenham.
“He played all 46 league games last season, so that’s as good as it gets,” Dr Rajpal Brar exclusively told Tottenham News.
“This means there should be no issues whatsoever with his medical.
“Also, he’s got Premier League experience under his belt, which will come in handy with his adaptation and would minimise injury risk too.”

Estève could serve as a solid back-up option for Tottenham, offering robustness, physical presence, and a commendable fitness record. The French defender featured in all 46 Championship matches during the 2024/25 season, a testament to his durability and consistency, qualities that would add depth and reliability to Spurs’ backline.

However, the 23-year-old is not yet at Cristian Romero’s level and should not be viewed as a direct replacement at White Hart Lane. It would be misguided for the club’s decision-makers to consider him as such. Adding to the concern is Burnley’s £50 million valuation, an excessive fee for a player with limited Premier League experience. Unless that asking price drops significantly, Tottenham would be wise to steer clear of making a move for Estève.
