Arsenal enter the transfer race for Tottenham target Lyon winger Malick Fofana
Following the collapse of the Morgan Gibbs-White deal in July, Tottenham Hotspur are eager to make a statement signing to reinforce their squad before the new season kicks off.
With former skipper Son Heung-min having departed and James Maddison suffering a serious knee injury that has ruled him out for the majority of the upcoming season, Spurs’ recruitment team must act swiftly and plug the holes in Thomas Frank’s squad. With Dejan Kulusevski also sidelined, Thomas Frank might not want to go into the new season without a new attacker.
The Lilywhites are currently in talks with Manchester City over the signing of Savinho. The Brazil international is understood to be open to a switch to North London, and Pep Guardiola is known for allowing players to leave if they push for an exit, so, Tottenham are ready to seize the chance to bring him.
However, football finance expert Dan Plumley claims the north Londoners will search for two attackers to replace Son and Maddison in Frank’s squad. This means after the potential acquisition of Savinho, the Hotspur Way chiefs will try and recruit another offensive player before the transfer window slams shut.

Arsenal eye Tottenham-linked Lyon winger
Should Spurs wish to dip into the market after getting the Savinho deal over the line, there are a number of talented options out there. Among those include talented Lyon winger Malick Fofana.
Malick Fofana, who has already been linked with a move to N17 since the start of the transfer window, is widely regarded as one of the most talented players in Ligue 1. For Lyon, the Belgium international has played much of his football as a left-sided attacker but he can also operate off the right. The youngster enjoyed a strong last season, registering 11 goals and six assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.
Naturally, Fofana’s performances have caught the attention of several clubs across Europe. Now, according to a report from Football Transfers, Arsenal have entered the mix to sign the 20-year-old winger from Lyon. The club officials made a trip to France last week to chat with Lyon over the possibility of signing Fofana, having earmarked him as a potential alternative to Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

Spurs could turn to Fofana to boost their wide options
The Gunners have upgraded their squad with some quality acquisitions this summer, and they want to bolster their attacking options further by bringing in the Lyon starlet. Fofana’s priority is Champions League football, and Arsenal would be able to offer him that.
Likewise, Spurs are also in a position to do that whilst making him a part of Frank’s revolution at N17. Fofana would add pace, flair and penetration to the final third, especially vital with Son now no more part of the club and Maddison on the treatment table. Under Frank, whose system thrives on fluid attacking movement, the Belgian trickster could flourish as both a creator and a goalscoring threat from wide areas.
However, with Arsenal entering the race for his signature, Tottenham must hurry up and get Fofana in. The opportunity is there and crucially, Fofana is available this summer.
