Tottenham Hotspur suffered a cruel blow last night in their summer transfer plans with Arsenal hijacking their deal for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze. The N17 faithful were in hope of the Englishman joining this summer and had a deal agreed for him but things changed once the Gunners made a late bid.
It has been a very weird summer transfer window for Spurs so far. In all fairness, their base squad is already very talented and Thomas Frank has done a solid job with them during pre-season. The team showcased the same against Burnley in the opening Premier League weekend, securing a 3-0 win.
However, they have also had to deal with less-than-desirable things in the transfer window. Club legend Son Heung-min left Spurs this summer after a decade in North London. James Maddison suffered an ACL injury that has ruled him out for the foreseeable future. The lesser said about Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White this summer.
Tottenham move for Savinho after Eze blow
Now, as per Globo Esporte journalist Cahe Mota, Tottenham have moved swiftly after their crushing Eberechi Eze blow to increase their bid for Manchester City star Savinho. Spurs have now upped their offer to around €80million for the Brazilian attacker with his agents still in UK to sort out his future.
The ‘incredible’ Man City star has been linked with a move to North London for the past few weeks. However, things aren’t necessarily clear on this front if Pep Guardiola’s side would be open to letting the 21-year-old leave this summer. Savinho had a very good first season under the Spanish tactician last year.
A left-footed player who excels at playing on the right wing, Savinho is equally comfortable playing on the left. He hasn’t played as an attacking midfielder much during his time at the Etihad, but he would benefit from a move to Spurs where he can learn and develop under Thomas Frank.
A realistic signing?
Spurs’ increased bid for Savinho could tempt Man City to accept their offer. That said, it isn’t that the M11-based club are searching for cash or in desperate need of a sale. Thus, Tottenham need to prioritize convincing Savinho of pushing for a move away from the Etihad this transfer window.
One thing you can say about Man City is that they hardly ever hold a player against his will. Thus, this still remains a realistic signing for Tottenham and let’s wait and see how things play out on this front.
