Tottenham Hotspur are all set to miss out on Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers as we approach the business-end of the transfer window
Tottenham have done their best to embarrass themselves in the summer transfer window after failing to land their top target this month. The Lilywhites were in a strong position to negotiate a deal for top quality players when the transfer window commenced in June. They were the Europa League winners and had just managed to qualify for Champions League football.
The project was exciting, and the North London club also had a brilliant manager in Thomas Frank leading the way to build on the Europa League success. However, the incompetence shown by Daniel Levy in the coming months proved to be costly as Spurs only managed to land one first-team player in Mohammed Kudus on a permanent deal.

The most recent setback that Spurs endured was missing out Eberechi Eze this week. The Lilywhites spent weeks negotiating a deal with Crystal Palace for the player, with the England international keen on a move as well. However, Daniel Levy waited too long to reach an agreement with the Eagles, despite Eze agreeing personal terms with the club. This gave Arsenal a chance to swoop in and hijack the player in a matter of hours.
Tottenham shift their focus towards Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers
Tottenham are now looking to save face in the window and have moved on to other targets following Eze’s decision to join arch rivals Arsenal. It was reported earlier this week that the Lilywhites are keen to sign Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers. The North London club consider the England international to be their ‘dream target’ and are willing to test the waters for his signature in the coming days.
However, ben Jacobs has shut the door on Spurs signing the highly-rated attacker this summer. Speaking on talkSPORT (via X), Jacobs said,
“I sense from Aston Villa’s perspective that they are okay as far as PSR is concerned. They’re in a strong enough position for the last financial year that’s closed and this current financial year that they won’t need to cash in on Morgan Rogers.”
The journalist added,
“Even if Rogers was available, the volume of interest and price wouldn’t make Tottenham the front runners. The door is probably shut on anyone getting him.”
Ben Jacobs pointed out that Aston Villa do not have any urgency to sell Morgan Rogers before the window shuts as they do not need to find the cash to stay on the right side of PSR as of now. The journalist also added that Tottenham would not be the favourites to land the England international in the summer even if the Aston Villa star was available in the market. Jacobs finally concluded by suggesting that the Villans are in no mood to listen to offers for Rogers and consider him a vital part of the team.
With time ticking on in the transfer window, Daniel Levy must find a way to switch his focus on other players that could operate as a #10 under Thomas Frank. The Danish tactician will hope that Spurs manage to find a way to land a new attacking midfielder in the coming days. The Lilywhites are aiming to compete on all four fronts this season, and that will not be easy to achieve without bringing in a player to fill James Maddison’s void in the team.
