Tottenham Hotspur get chance to battle it out with Chelsea for the signing of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho

Tottenham Hotspur are anticipating a busy end to summer business, as they remain on the lookout for reinforcements in attack following Son Heung-min’s departure to Los Angeles FC and James Maddison’s serious knee injury.

Maddison has joined Radu Dragusin, Dejan Kulusevski and Destiny Udogie on the sidelines after suffering an ACL rupture in pre-season tour of Asia earlier this month, which has ruled him out of action for at least six to seven months. Spurs were interested in signing Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze as Maddison’s potential replacement, and despite him being keen on a move to N17, arch-rivals Arsenal made an 11th-hour swoop on Wednesday night and stole him under their noses.

This has now left Daniel Levy and the Lilywhites scrambling for new faces before the transfer deadline. Amidst a chaotic last few weeks, Spurs have now been given an opportunity to sign a player from one of their Premier League rivals.

Tottenham given green light to revive interest in Manchester United outcast

According to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Manchester United have given Tottenham green light to revive their interest in Alejandro Garnacho.

Chelsea are currently leading the race for the winger’s signature, having already agreed personal terms with him. However, Manchester United fear that they will be forced to allow the Argentina international to join Chelsea for a bargain fee if no other suitors are prepared to table formal offers before September 1 transfer deadline.

This is why INEOS are eager for Spurs to re-enter the race for Alejandro Garnacho, who was one of the better performers for the Red Devils in an otherwise disastrous 2024/25 campaign. The youngster enjoyed a productive season with 11 goals and 10 assists in 58 appearances. But, he fell out with head coach Ruben Amorim after the Europa League final and it has become clear that Garnacho will not be handed another opportunity to work his way back into the Portuguese’s plans.

The aforementioned report adds that the Madrid-born talent has his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea want to wrap up a deal for as little as £30million due to his desire to join Enzo Maresca’s forces. Despite him being frozen out by Amorim, Man United value Garnacho significantly higher than what the Pensioners want to pay, thus, urging Spurs to come back into the frame in an attempt to ignite a potential bidding war between the London clubs.

Manchester United’s out-of-favour-winger Alejandro Garnacho is desperate to join Chelsea

Should Spurs re-enter the race for Alejandro Garnacho?

For Tottenham, time is essence. Missing out on Eze is a seismic blow, but it cannot be an excuse for inaction. Both Eze and Garnacho are different profiles, but if Frank wants an out-and-out winger in addition to a creative midfielder, the Man United outcast then becomes a realistic target.

In Garnacho, Spurs would get a direct, pacey and unpredictable winger who can operate on both flanks. He’d add more speed and verve to the Lilywhites’ attack, whilst being a terrific option to bring off the bench against tiring defenders. The Argentina international also has got decent Premier League experience under his banner now, and with a high potential to unlock, he’d fit the club’s strategy of investing in youth.

However, as Garnacho is firm on his decision to join Chelsea, Levy and Co. must think twice before entering the race as they cannot afford to get dragged into another prolonged chase with little return.
