Tottenham are in a mess right now following Eberechi Eze’s decision to join Arsenal at the eleventh hour
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank is aiming to make his mark at N17 by building on the Europa League success this season. The Danish tactician is determined to make the Lilywhites ‘serial winners’ during his tenure. And to achieve that, the ex-Brentford boss needs to be backed in the transfer market before the window shuts.
The Lilywhites clearly need a new #10 after James Maddison ruptured his ACL earlier this month. The England international is set to miss out on most parts of next season which is a massive setback for the club. So, to rectify the problem, Spurs were targeting Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze as his potential replacement. The England international was keen on the move and agreed the personal terms as well.

However, Daniel Levy ‘dilly-dallied’ for too long while negotiating the transfer money for his services. This prompted Arsenal to test the waters for the 27-year-old’s signature at the eleventh hour. And to everyone’s surprise, Eze accepted a move to the Emirates Stadium due to his past affiliation with the club. Arsenal also managed to reach an agreement with Palace over the transfer fee in a matter of hours, something that Levy never managed to do.
Tottenham need to find an ‘instant impact’ player following Eze snub
There are still eleven days left for Tottenham to save faces before the transfer window shuts shop. The Lilywhites need to up their ante and find a player that has the same qualities as Eberechi Eze in these last few days of the window. It is important to note that the market is saturated at this point and no club would want their best to leave so late. So, Daniel Levy will need to somehow find a way to get a quality replacement in.
Now, Alasdair Gold has urged the club to bring in a ‘ready-made’ player that could get going from minute-one. Talking on his YouTube channel, Gold said,
“I’m not going to talks about who comes in. But it needs to be someone for the ‘now.’ Whoever they now go for has to be similar (as Eze). It cannot just be a youth prospect.”
The journalist added,
“It cannot be someone that might be able to contribute a little bit now, but mainly for the future. It needs to be someone that comes in and is Champions League ready. And is ready to make a huge impact for the club right now.”
Alasdair Gold wants Tottenham to sign a player that can make an instant impact at N17 following his arrival. The journalist wants the Lilywhites to sign a player that has the same qualities as Eberechi Eze. And he also does not want the North London club to sign another young talent instead. Gold has urged Spurs to bring in a player that is ready to play in the Champions League and make an impact at the club from minute-one.
Now, it remains to be seen what Daniel Levy decides to do in order to save the club from an embarrassment. The Lilywhites need to bring in a player that can fill the void left behind by James Maddison. So, it is necessary for Spurs to sign a player that can adapt to Thomas Frank’s system and style. Landing a new player just for the sake of it will backfire in the future and it will put the club on the backfoot once again.
