Not only that, but the Danish tactician also wants a player that can win the ball back higher up the pitch, as well as, be versatile enough to play on the left-flank if needed.
It was reported earlier that Spurs are plotting a transfer hijack and could pip Chelsea in their pursuit of RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons. The Netherlands international has been on the Blues’ radar for quite some time now, and has also agreed personal terms at Stamford Bridge. However, the deal is stalled for quite some time now, allowing the Lilywhites to test the waters and lure Simons to N17.
Now, there is a new transfer update regarding Xavi Simons’ future. As per BILD, Daniel Levy can play a crucial part in luring the 22-year-old to N17. The Spurs chairman has a great relationship with the RB Leipzig board member Oliver Mintzlaf, allowing the Lilywhites to have an edge over Chelsea for Simons’ signature. The report also states that the Dutchman is valued at €70m, and the German club will not sell him if the right offer does not come in.
Now, signing Xavi Simons might just turn out to be a masterstroke. The 22-year-old has all the experience in the world to lead the attacking line at N17. He has performed brilliantly wherever he has played, and that too on the biggest of stages. Not only that, but Simons’ technical brilliance and ability to dribble past defenders will provide a different dynamic to the attack. The Dutchman tends to thrive in transitions and can play either as a #10, or on the left-wing, allowing Thomas Frank to utilise him wherever the team needs him to be.
