Tottenham join the race to sign “greatly underestimated” ace from Barcelona

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur look to be enjoying a busy few days to close out the summer transfer window. The club has been very active in the market for the better part of a month now, without managing to get those deals over the line.

Johan Lange would not be very proud of the work he has done so far to convince potential targets to sign for the North London club. Despite having Champions League allure, this has been a very weird transfer window from the club’s perspective.

Of course, Tottenham did manage to make two excellent deals – Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United and Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich on loan. However, Thomas Frank would love to see more reinforcements come in.

Tottenham want Fermin Lopez

One player whom Spurs seem to have made a move for in recent hours is Xavi Simons. Even as Tottenham continue to be embroiled in a battle for him with Chelsea, it looks like the club have already lined up another transfer target.

As per journalist Jose Alvarez from El Chiringuito TV in Spain, Tottenham have joined the race to sign Barcelona midfield star Fermin Lopez. He has also mentioned that Newcastle United are willing to offer €100m for him and would quadruple his salary.

Ever since yesterday, there have been strong links connecting Chelsea and Fermin, and it looks like Premier League clubs have hopped on the bandwagon. The Spaniard is a very unique profile and an important squad member of Hansi Flick’s team.

Deceptive on the eye

Labelled as a player who is “greatly underestimated”, Fermin is often very deceptive on the eye. He doesn’t come across as someone who make you sit down, drop your jaw and take notice which is very ironic considering that is exactly how he announced himself to the footballing world with a screamer against Real Madrid.

However, managers will always know the value that Fermin brings to the squad. He is very good across the forward line and is at his best when operating as a box-crashing number nine. It is one of the many reasons why he might thrive at a Premier League club where space is plenty.

The next few days should give an idea on if Tottenham make a move to sign Fermin this summer. It doesn’t seem likely and let’s wait and see how it develops.
