Tottenham Hotspur initiate contact with Manchester United for Kobbie Mainoo
Tottenham Hotspur were finally able to land their desired new playmaker in the very last stretch of the 2025 summer transfer window as they completed the signing of the RB Leipzig forward Xavi Simons.
With this acquisition, Spurs have significantly strengthened one of the weaker areas of their team, one that was reeling from the effects of Son Heung-Min’s departure to the MLS this summer and also from the long-term injury suffered by James Maddison during the preseason.
Meanwhile, it looks like the North London side is still in the market to further enhance its attacking options for a season in which it will be competing for both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League titles.
In this regard, a report from CaughtOffside indicates that the Lilywhites have already initiated contacts for the signing of the Manchester United starlet Kobbie Mainoo, and are hoping to complete his signing before the end of the summer transfer window, which is closing in less than 2 days.
The youngster possess incredible talent and potential, and in normal circumstances, it would have been impossible to imagine a side as big as Manchester United being willing to part with him. However, the player needs regular game time to continue developing, and, unable to get this at United, he would be willing to pursue a move to another team.

The youngster will continue to compete for game time at Spurs
Tottenham could definitely do with a footballer of his quality and potential, but it is quite clear that he will not be able to get this regular game time with Spurs either. Thomas Frank already has quite a competitive midfield at this disposal, with players like Joao Palhinha, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr, Lucas Bergvall, and Archie Gray all available to play, while Xavi Simons has also joined.
Similarly, James Maddison will also have a strong claim to a place in the starting lineup once he completely recovers from the long-term injury he suffered in the preseason.
Still, if it emerges as a market opportunity, Tottenham would be wise to lay their hands on a talent as promising as Mainoo, as he has the potential to turn out to be a world-class player in the future.
