Bryan Gil admits he wanted to leave Tottenham Hotspur only for Girona
Tottenham Hotspur had a busy summer transfer deadline day in terms of both incomings and outgoings.
The Lilywhites moved quickly to add to their attack with the loan signing of Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain after learning about the severity of Dominic Solanke’s latest ankle injury. The PSG flop, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Juventus, will be a part of Thomas Frank’s squad for the entire 2025/26 campaign.
As far as the outgoings were concerned, Manor Solomon sealed a last-minute loan switch to Villarreal after his Crystal Palace move broke down. The north Londoners also pulled off a smart sale on the final day of the window, which has actually gone under the radar.

Bryan Gil opens up on his permanent move to Girona from Spurs
Bryan Gil has had a tough time at Tottenham since joining from Valencia back in 2021, struggling to force his way into the squad under several managers. He was farmed out on loan to many Spanish clubs over all these years.
The Spanish winger joined Girona on a season-long loan last summer. Bryan Gil was doing well at Girona until a knee injury sustained in March forced him to undergo surgery. This led to a premature end to the 2024/25 season, where he bagged three goals and as many assists in 25 La Liga appearances.
Into the final year of his contract and not a part of Thomas Frank’s plans, Spurs were open to offers for Gil all summer. It took until the deadline day for Girona to make a concrete move for the winger. Eventually, the two clubs agreed a deal worth €10m for the player.

Now, Gil has opened up after sealing a permanent move to the Catalan side. The Spaniard admits to have waited until the final day of the window to only re-join Girona as it is the club where “he wants to be”.
“Girona mean a lot to me, which is why I waited until the end of the transfer window to come here. The transfer window has been difficult and hectic, but the important thing is that I’m where I wanted to be,” Gil was quoted by Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
Getting around €10m for Gil is good business from Tottenham
It would not be wrong to say that the Gil deal did not work out at all for Spurs. Having arrived at the club four years ago as a bright, exciting winger with quick feet and technical ability, the Spaniard never really managed to showcase his talent. The left-footed attacker struggled to earn first-team opportunities at White Hart Lane but did not impress when he did get on the pitch.
It was looking unlikely that the 24-year-old would leave North London before the transfer deadline. With his contract expiring in 2026, it was looking more and more likely that he would walk out of the club as a free agent. Considering the circumstances, the Hotspur Way chiefs have done very well to get around €10m from Gil’s sale to Girona.
It may appear a small fee but that is perhaps the least Tottenham could have got for the Premier League misfit.
