Tottenham are going to rely heavily on Brennan Johnson’s knack of scoring goals if the club wants to build on their UEL success this season
Tottenham winger Brennan Johnson has picked up where he left off last season. The Wales international has certainly become a legend around N17 for his heroics last season. And it is fair to say that the 24-year-old is looking make the same sort of impact under Thomas Frank that he managed to do under Ange Postecoglou.
The prolific winger was monumental in helping the Lilywhites achieve the impossible last season. Spurs managed to win the Europa League against all odds under Big Ange, and a lot of the credit goes to Brennan Johnson for leading the team from the front and helping the club reach the promised land. As per Sofascore, the Welshman managed to rack up 18 goals in all competitions last season, including a winner in the Europa League final.

Now, the ex-Nottingham Forest star has started the new campaign under Thomas Frank in the exact same way. Johnson has already managed to score two goals in three Premier League starts this time around, and it looks like he is not going to stop scoring anytime soon. This is good news for Thomas Frank as the Spurs No.22 is thriving on the left-flank, a position he is unfamiliar with.
Brennan Johnson has been an unsung hero at Tottenham under Thomas Frank
With all the focus being on Richarlison and Mohammed Kudus after the first games of the new Premier League campaign, it is Brennan Johnson’s unsung heroics that have gone under the radar. The Welshman got on the scoresheet against Burnley, as well as, Manchester City for Spurs. And he has clearly showcased his versatility by playing on the left-wing to accommodate Kudus in the team.
Now, John Wenham has heaped praise on Johnson for carrying on last year’s form, despite playing on the left-flank. Speaking to Tottenham News, he said,
“Credit to him, he’s playing off the left, Mohammed Kudus has cut in and taken his natural position on the right. He’s been rebranded to the left and two games in, scored two goals. Gary Neville said it, and Johnson is doing what he does.”
The Lilywhite Rose owner added,
“He scores goals, has a great knack for it. I mean, that finish against Man City was fantastic, first time powered in like that, coming off his unnatural side. So fair play for him, having fully carried on.”
John Wenham reminds the fans that Brennan Johnson is playing in an unfamiliar position to make space for Mohammed Kudus in the team. Yet, the Welshman has managed to score two goals in three games, doing what he does best. The Lilywhite Rose owner points out that the Welshman has a ‘knack’ for goals, and he always pops up in the right place. Wenham also praises Johnson’s ‘fantastic’ finish against Man City, as he came off from his unnatural side.
Now, the Wales international will hope that he can carry on the goal-scoring momentum after the international break. Spurs are looking to compete hard on all four fronts this season, so they will need Johnson’s expertise to be in the right place at the right time more often than not.
