Carlalberto Ludi is happy that Nico Paz snubbed a summer move to Tottenham Hotspur to stay at Como
Tottenham Hotspur had to face a series of obstacles during the past summer transfer window.
Spurs were denied the opportunity to sign Morgan Gibbs-White by Nottingham Forest, despite them triggering the player’s release clause. This forced them to look elsewhere to sign a creative midfielder, and Eberechi Eze emerged as a concrete target. Thanks to former chairman Daniel Levy’s lethargic negotiations with Crystal Palace, Arsenal swooped in and hijacked Eze’s deal.
After bitter rivals Arsenal stole Eze under the noses of Tottenham, alternative targets started emerging on the club’s radar. And one of those alternatives was Como playmaker Nico Paz.

Como sporting director pleased Nico Paz snubbed a summer move to Tottenham
Tottenham had made an approach to Serie A side Como to try to sign Nico Paz in August. They reportedly offered close to €70m to convince Como to let him go. Although Como revealed that they had not received any bid for the player, it seems like the player shut down Spurs’ approach for him.
Now, Como’s sporting director Carlalberto Ludi has reiterated that Tottenham never sent a written offer. He also hailed Nico Paz for not leaving the Serie A side, where he has a contract until 2028. Here is what Carlalberto Ludi told in an interview with TuttoMercatoWeb.
“Not much, because no official offer has arrived, and by official, I mean signed.”
“We’ve always had the player on our side. What makes us really proud is that, despite the sirens, many players and the coach have chosen to stay with us.
“We didn’t have to apply any pressure, other than to keep the course straight, maintain balance, and continue explaining the project to them.”
Real Madrid also played a massive role in stopping Tottenham from signing Paz. Having come through the ranks at Castilla, Los Blancos still hold great control over the Argentinean international’s future. Real have a €10m buy-back clause on the 20-year-old next summer and they have every intention of triggering it when the time comes.

Tottenham moved to Xavi Simons
After Paz also rejected a move to N17, the north Londoners’ options to bolster their creative department became further limited. Eventually, they switched their focus to RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons and beat Chelsea to his signature in the final week of the summer window.
Simons has been regarded as one of the best young attacking talents in Europe, and after performing very well at RB Leipzig, he will be raring to prove himself in the Premier League. Our fans are excited to watch the Dutchman make his debut for Tottenham in the London derby against West Ham on Saturday.
