“The future”- Rising Tottenham star leaves veteran ace stunned amidst strong start to the 2024-25 campaign

Joao Palhinha left in disbelief at how young his Tottenham Hotspur teammate Lucas Bergvall is

Tottenham Hotspur have surprised the onlookers with their brilliant start to the new season. They have won three of their four Premier League fixtures and sit third on the table, and opened their Champions League account by beating Villarreal on Tuesday night.

Spurs’ defence has been raved by plenty of fans and pundits for keeping four clean sheets from five games. The midfield unit deserves its flowers as well, with summer signing Joao Palhinha making an immediate impact in Thomas Frank’s setup. The 30-year-old has added experience, steel and physicality to the team’s midfield, whilst giving license to creative players to thrive in advanced roles.

The presence of Joao Palhinha in the anchor role has hugely benefited Lucas Bergvall. The teenager has operated in an advanced No.10 role under Thomas Frank and flourished, scoring a brilliant looping header in the 3-0 win over London rivals West Ham last weekend. The Sweden international also performed very well against Villarreal, and it was his attempted cross in the box that goalkeeper Luiz Junior spilled into his own net- which turned out to be the difference between the sides.

Joao Palhinha makes surprising claim about teammate Lucas Bergvall

With Lucas Bergvall growing in stature, Joao Palhinha is in disbelief at what he just heard about his Tottenham teammate. After the Champions League win vs Villarreal in which Bergvall scooped the Man of the Match award, the Portugal international admitted he did not realise how old his teammate was.

“Top player,” Palhinha praised about Bergvall via The Standard.

“He’s one of the talents that we have, he’s improving a lot, growing up a lot. I saw two days ago or three days ago [that he’s 19] because I thought he was a bit more older!

“It means a lot, young players that we will have not just in the present but also the future of the club. And yeah, I’m really happy to play with him and all the other players I have on the team.”

Bergvall played a key role in Tottenham’s return to the Champions League

Bergvall surprised many with his performances in his maiden season at N17. He was one of the key contributors to Tottenham’s Europa League triumph, even though he was ruled out of the final against Manchester United due to an ankle ligament damage. However, his contributions during the Europa League group stages and knockout rounds cannot be overlooked.

Now, the Swedish talent is showing his quality in the Premier League and Champions League. Spurs were underwhelming against Villarreal on Tuesday night, but Bergvall had a debut to remember in the competition. His efforts were rewarded with the Man of the Match award.

Indeed, it is surprising that he is still only 19, considering the maturity and calmness with which he plays for the Lilywhites. At 19, the central midfielder has potential bursting through his veins, and if he continues to improve at such a brisk rate, then he could easily become one of the best in his mind. No wonder why Barcelona are still hurting from missing out on Bergvall’s signature!
