Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven is wanted by Liverpool and Chelsea
A lot has changed at Tottenham Hotspur in recent months, with Thomas Frank’s appointment as the new head coach being the most significant one. The decision to appoint the 51-year-old is already proving to be an astute one.
Spurs have started the new season very well under the leadership of Thomas Frank, winning four out of five games in all competitions. They kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 1-0 win over Villarreal, with Frank’s men succeeding in keeping another clean sheet. The Lilywhites’ defence has looked watertight, thanks to Frank’s ideas and philosophy and the players executing the plans.
The centre-back pairing of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven has shown signs of their old self, dominating the opposition attackers and barely giving them any spaces in the final third to flourish. This led to talkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara calling the pair the best in the business in the world right now.

Liverpool, Chelsea among clubs monitoring Micky van de Ven
Micky van de Ven, in particular, has been sensational and admitted after the Villarreal game that Tottenham look more compact and clinical under Frank. The Dutchman’s performances this season have not gone unnoticed across Europe.
Real Madrid have shown an interest in signing the 24-year-old, who is valued close to €80 million by Spurs. And now Real Madrid have been joined by a pair of Premier League clubs in keeping tabs on the Tottenham defender. According to the Boy Hotspur (h/t CaughtOffside), Liverpool and Chelsea are eyeing a potential move for Van de Ven in 2026. Bayern Munich are also understood to be monitoring his situation, after his strong start to the 2025/26 campaign.
Van de Ven is on quite low salary compared to his Tottenham teammates and other players at ‘Big Six’ clubs. He is currently on £90,000 gross per week at N17, which is quite low and could harm their chances to keep hold of him for long, even though the defender has a contract until 2029. The Netherlands international is a key member of the squad and Frank certainly wants to keep him. Spurs valuing the 24-year-old around €80 million is a tactic to scare off his potential suitors
The aforementioned report (h/t CaughtOffside) adds the Lilywhites are preparing to offer a new deal to Van de Ven that would double his weekly wages and secure his long-term future. It is a clear signal of faith in the centre-back’s development and potential, and a strategic move to fend off interest.

Van de Ven is the present and future of Tottenham
Tottenham have no intention to sell Van de Ven, especially to any Premier League rival, and that has become apparent with their reported decision of handing him a new deal. The key decision-makers of the club view the Dutch talent as a player for the present and future.
The only issue has been the Wormer native’s fitness across two seasons in north London. If Van de Ven can keep himself fit and firing, Tottenham would benefit massively. Let’s hope he continues performing consistently and helps Frank’s side keep many more clean sheets.
