“I like him”- Consistent Tottenham star continues to go ‘under the radar’; key cog under Thomas Frank

Date:

Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr is finally proving his worth at N17 under Thomas Frank’s guidance

One Tottenham player that really deserves all the plaudits this season is Pape Matar Sarr. The Senegal international has quietly gone about his business for the Lilywhites in the middle of the park. And credit where its due, the 23-year-old is finally showing his true potential for the North London club three years after arriving at N17 from Metz.

Sarr’s highlight for this season is got to be his outstanding performance against West Ham United away from home. The prolific midfielder rose high during a corner and managed to find the back of the net to give Spurs a deserving lead against the Hammers. He then managed to continue his good form by playing well against Villarreal in the Champions League later that week.

It is fair to say that the 23-year-old is enjoying a more advanced role under Thomas Frank this season. Matar Sarr has been alternating with Lucas Bergvall in the #10 position, and the opportunity to showcase his creative flair has allowed the Senegalese to develop a different dynamic to his game for the North London club.

Pape Matar Sarr is an ‘important cog’ in the Tottenham engine for Thomas Frank

As you may know, Pape Matar Sarr excels in intercepting the ball’s trajectory and winning duels in the middle of the park. Taking notice of that, Thomas Frank has allowed the midfielder to push higher up the field and press the opponents in the final third of the pitch, forcing them to make mistakes more often than not. This has proved to be quite vital for Spurs to create goal-scoring chances out of nowhere.

Martin Allen has also noticed the 23-year-old’s impressive performances and given him some much-deserved words of encouragement. Speaking to Tottenham News, Allen has said,

“I like Sarr, he goes under the radar. He doesn’t get much credit, but he perhaps might not score as many goals as the manager might like.”

The ex-Leicester City manager added,

“He’s an important cog in that engine to allow all those players up front, who have got real quality, to have someone that can close down, get their foot in, help them with the defence and the attack, and get around the pitch. With those types of players, you’ve got to let him get out there and smother the game.”

Martin Allen believes Pape Matar Sarr’s contributions are often overlooked, despite him being an important part of Thomas Frank’s setup in the middle of the park. The ex-manager adds that Sarr allows his teammates to perform better by putting in the hard yards and winning the ball back almost instantly. Allen also urges Thomas Frank to make the 23-year-old a mainstay in the team and allow him to thrive in the position that suits him.

Fans will hope that the best is yet to come from Pape Matar Sarr as Spurs continue to build on their Europa League success this season. The Senegal international will look to make the most of his chances in the team under Thomas Frank. And it is fair to say that the 23-year-old will also look to play his natural game for the Lilywhites and continue to do what he does best.
