Former Lilywhite tips Tottenham for Harry Kane reunion as speculation grows

Date:

Teddy Sheringham believes Tottenham Hotspur stand better positioned than Manchester United to bring Harry Kane back to the Premier League. The Spurs legend, who knows all about leaving North London for pastures new before returning later in his career (LOL), feels that if Kane decides to come home, his former club is the only realistic destination.

That is as per Football London. Kane left Spurs in the summer of 2023, joining Bayern Munich for £86.4m after years of chasing trophies in England. He has more than delivered in Germany, hitting eight goals and three assists in just four Bundesliga matches this season and helping Vincent Kompany’s side begin with a perfect record. With a contract running until 2027 (Transfermarkt) but a £54m release clause due to activate in January 2026, he has seen himself linked with a Premier League return.

Sheringham, who famously traded Spurs for Manchester United in 1997 before re-joining the club in 2001, sees familiar patterns in Kane’s present situation.

“Football can change very quickly, so to say where he could go next at the season is anyone’s guess. Despite his age, he’d still be one of the most sought-after players in world football if he was to become available.”

“The way it’s looking for Manchester United, they still could do with a player like him, but I think it’s unlikely that they would get him. For me, Tottenham would be the obvious choice.”

Can Kane Be Back?

Supporters would find it hard to disagree. Kane left as Tottenham’s all-time record goalscorer, with 435 appearances yielding 280 goals and 63 assists. He carried the team through lean years, becoming not just a talisman but also a symbol of loyalty, professionalism and belief. His departure hurt, but it came with an understanding that his desire to win titles needed to be fulfilled elsewhere.

Current boss Thomas Frank, speaking this week, struck a more cautious tone. The Dane acknowledged Kane’s impact at Bayern and suggested the striker would likely remain in Munich for now, where he is flourishing as a champion. Yet Frank admits that both he and many supporters would love to see Kane back at the club one day, a reminder that the door is never truly shut.

“I don’t know what he’s thinking. Myself, I’m a traveller, I like to explore things as well, so he’s been here for many years, so why not enjoy the time in Bayern a little bit more? But he’s welcome. If he wants to join us, he’s more than welcome.”

Harry Kane To Tottenham?
Former Spurs captain Harry Kane has been lighting the Bundesliga up with Bayern Munich.

For Spurs, the idea of reuniting with Kane is both romantic and practical. The club is in a period of transition under Frank, fresh off a Europa League triumph last season that reignited belief. Momentum is building, but a proven, world-class striker would elevate them further. Kane offers goals, leadership and a connection to supporters that money cannot buy.

While Manchester United’s name will inevitably enter the gossip columns, Sheringham’s verdict feels closer to the truth. Tottenham remain Kane’s home, the club where he grew up, and the place where unfinished business still lingers. If Bayern’s grip loosens in the coming years, Spurs will surely be first in line, and the welcome will be every bit as warm as Sheringham predicts.
