Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl says Harry Kane will decide Tottenham return
There has been a lot of talk about a potential return to Tottenham Hotspur for Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane.
Having spent most of his career at Spurs, the English striker was individually brilliant for the club but never managed to win a trophy with them. He decided to leave the north Londoners and join Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 to win trophies and enhance his CV. And he has done that in the last two seasons in Germany.
Harry Kane lifted the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich last season, his first ever league title. The 32-year-old has also continued to score at a prolific rate since leaving Tottenham for Bayern Munich, bagging 98 goals in 103 appearances thus far. There’s now growing talk of the striker possibly coming back to the Premier League.
Recent reports suggest Kane has a £56.7m release clause in his contract which kicks in at the end of the season. All-time England’s top scorer has a deal that runs until 2027 at the Allianz Arena, but he could be set to leave the club next summer for a bargain fee of £56.7m. This will become a real possibility as long as the centre-forward expresses his wishes to depart Bayern before the 2026 January transfer window slams shut.

Bayern sporting director breaks silence on Kane’s future amid Tottenham links
Thomas Frank added fuel when asked about Kane’s subject earlier this week. The Spurs boss insisted that he and majority of the fans would welcome back the academy graduate with open arms if he wishes to return next year.
Bayern, on their part, have been working hard to play down the idea. The Bavarian giants are making it clear that that they are planning for life with Kane in the present and future. Their sporting director Max Eberl has now broken his silence on this topic. He has double down on the club’s stance, asserting that any move, and a possible return to N17, will be decided by the 32-year-old alone.
“He’s [Kane] old enough to make his own decisions, whether clause or no clause, whatever – if he says, ‘I want to make a decision,’ then he’ll make it, as he showed at Tottenham. But our wish is, of course, to be very, very successful with Harry this season and in the future!” Max Eberl told BILD during the pre-match press conference against Werder Bremen.
“At his age, he’s making huge strides on the pitch. We all knew him from Tottenham, from his goal-scoring skills, but the way he’s playing football right now in this team, leading the way on the pitch, sacrificing himself for the team, shows: He simply wants to win titles! That’s his hunger, he can do it with us, and we want to do it with him.”

Bayern resigned to losing Kane?
Eberl has done his bit in the presser to show Kane is committed to Vincent Kompany’s project at Bayern, and while he certainly is and wants to win the Champions League this season, his comments on the ‘release clause’ should give optimism to Tottenham and our fans. There looks to be an air of trepidation in the Bayern offices regarding Kane’s future, perhaps with many feeling the third season could be his last at the Allianz Arena.
The Bayern sporting director’s comments has only strengthened the position of Spurs, who have a priority option to sign the player in 2026. So, they will be the first ones to be offered the opportunity to sign Kane if he decides to leave the German champions. Plus, Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goalscoring record will be in the veteran striker’s sights, giving him enough motivation to come back to White Hart Lane.
It remains to be seen what Kane decides, but Eberl’s comments has done more damage to Bayern in keeping hold of the Englishman amid Tottenham interest.
