Tottenham have been handed a boost in their hunt for Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth
Tottenham Hotspur pulled off a coup on summer transfer deadline day by signing Randal Kolo Muani on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
Randal Kolo Muani was poised to join Juventus after his successful loan during the second half of last season. However, a move collapsed, and sensing there is an opportunity to get the player, Spurs pounced on the Frenchman and signed him for the 2025/26 season.
As it is a dry loan with no option or obligation to buy, Kolo Muani will return to Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the campaign. In truth, the 2022 World Cup finalist’s acquisition cannot be deemed as futuristic from Tottenham’s point of view, unless he performs extremely well and the north London club persuades the forward to extend his stay.
Before Spurs settled for Kolo Muani, they had attempted to sign a striker from La Liga. The player was Atletico Madrid star Alexander Sorloth. The Norwegian striker was Atletico Madrid’s top scorer last season with 24 goals in all competitions. He decided to leave Atletico Madrid during the summer transfer window, citing reluctance to remain a secondary option under manager Diego Simeone. Unfortunately, the 29-year-old failed to get a transfer away from Wanda Metropolitano.

Tottenham have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Alexander Sorloth
Alexander Sorloth has struggled to get going this season, netting just once in five La Liga outings to date. The centre-forward’s poor form and uncertain future has forced Atletico Madrid to scour the market for alternatives.
Now, according to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Atletico Madrid have revived their interest in Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic considering Sorloth’s irregularity.
Juventus want to offload Dusan Vlahovic due to his contractual issue, and Atletico have explored options to sign the Serbian international- from direct negotiations with the Serie A side to including players in exchange to reduce the cost of signing the 25-year-old. The possibility of signing Vlahovic at a cut-price deal, given his expiring contract, is a tempting proposition for Los Rojiblancos, the report adds.
Atletico ruled out Sorloth’s departure in the past transfer window but they are willing to open avenues next year. The Simeone-led club’s interest in reinforcing the strike force with Vlahovic should be enough to give Spurs a boost in their pursuit of Sorloth.

Spurs could consider replacing Richarlison with Sorloth
Richarlison has started the 2025/26 season well, notching three goals and an assist in five Premier League games. With Dominic Solanke dealing with ankle issues and Kolo Muani out with a dead leg, the Brazilian has been new boss Thomas Frank’s first-choice No.9.
But given the fact that Richarlison is injury prone and inconsistent, Frank must consider moving him on next year. The 28-year-old cannot be relied upon, and with his contract expiring in 2027 (Transfermarkt), the next couple of transfer windows will offer Spurs opportunities to offload the striker and replace him. Sorloth, in that regard, could be a good option.
Sorloth has managed to rebuild his career after a disastrous spell with Crystal Palace. He has been a prolific goalscorer in La Liga, netting 44 times across last two seasons for Villarreal and Atletico. At 29, the Norway international is in the peak of his powers and could be tempted to prove his detractors wrong in the Premier League.
At the right price and with a proper role, Sorloth can be a valuable addition to the north London club. Also, Atletico identifying a replacement for Sorloth is an indirect indication that they are ready to listen to offers for him. That said, it will be interesting to see whether Tottenham reignite their interest in the Scandinavian star in 2026.
