Manchester United could scupper Tottenham Hotspur move for Federico Valverde
Tottenham showcased their true ambition in the summer by securing several key attacking signings, giving Thomas Frank the best possible platform to build on last season’s Europa League success. The Lilywhites brought in the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, and Randal Kolo Muani – a clear proof that the North London club was ready to go all-in to strengthen its frontline once and for all.
However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Spurs faced setbacks after missing out on a few high-profile targets. Among them was Real Madrid ace Rodrygo, whose future in Spain looked uncertain during the summer once it became clear that it would no longer be guaranteed regular minutes under Xabi Alonso.

Sensing an opportunity, Tottenham explored a deal late in the transfer window, even offering to cover Rodrygo’s full wages while he spent the season on loan at N17. But for one reason or another, the move never materialised, and the Brazilian opted to remain at the Bernabeu for the time being. Whether Spurs return for him in January remains to be seen. What’s certain, however, is that another Real Madrid star has now emerged firmly on the club’s radar.
Tottenham aiming to sign Real Madrid star Federico Valverde
Earlier reports suggest Tottenham have made Federico Valverde a priority target as they look to inject more steel into Thomas Frank’s midfield. The Uruguay international has reportedly been offered the chance to become a central figure at Spurs, with promises of regular game time in North London.
However, landing the 27-year-old might not be as easy as it sounds with Spurs having to fend off competition. As per Fichajes, Manchester United are also in the mix for his signature and are prepared to offer a hefty fee of around €80m to land him. Not only that, but the Red Devils are also prepared to involve Kobbie Mainoo in a swap deal to reduce the price tag and tempt the Los Blancos into considering a deal.
For Spurs, though, landing a player of Valverde’s calibre should be a no-brainer. The Uruguay international has consistently proven his worth, playing a pivotal role in Real Madrid’s success over recent years. His versatility is another major asset – capable of operating as a box-to-box midfielder, right-back, or even as a makeshift winger when required.
Beyond his tactical flexibility, Valverde brings unmatched energy to the middle of the pitch. His tireless work rate and ability to win duels make him an ideal candidate to strengthen Spurs’ midfield. Add to that his winning mentality, and it is easy to see why he could be the player to help turn Tottenham into genuine contenders for major trophies.
Will Tottenham manage to secure Valverde’s signature? Or is it just another distant dream for the North London faithful? Only time will tell.
