Tottenham are planning to hand key defender Micky van de Ven a bumper new deal amid growing interest
After months of speculation surrounding his future, Rodrigo Bentancur signed a new long-term deal with Tottenham Hotspur on Friday. The midfielder had just 10 months left on his previous deal, sparking fears among fans that he could potentially leave on a free transfer next summer, but those concerns have now been put to bed.
Rodrigo Bentancur has been a key player for new boss Thomas Frank’s side. The Uruguayan has forged a strong midfield partnership with summer signing Joao Palhinha, who has settled quickly in N17 after joining on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich. There is also talk of Spurs turning Palhinha’s loan from Bayern Munich into a permanent deal by activating the £27m buy option.
Also, when it comes to giving new contracts, it looks like another key Spurs player is set to commit his future at White Hart Lane.

Micky van de Ven looks poised for bumper new deal to ward off suitors
According to a report from TEAMTalk, Micky van de Ven looks poised to get a bumper new deal from Tottenham amid links with Real Madrid and Liverpool.
Since arriving at Spurs from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023, Micky van de Ven has quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders. The Dutchman has forged a strong partnership with Cristian Romero at the back, with the duo showing signs of getting back to their best after an injury-ravaged 2024/25 campaign.
The pair’s reading of the game, experience and leadership skills have given Tottenham a strong foundation to build upon, and disrupting that partnership isn’t something the fans would want to watch. In Romero’s injury absence, Micky van de Ven captained Tottenham in the 2-2 draw with Bodo/Glimt in the Championship. It was his header that halved the deficit before a late own goal from Bodo/Glimt helped the north Londoners to rescue a point.
The 24-year-old’s consistent performances, when fully fit, have unsurprisingly also caught the attention of Chelsea and Bayern Munich. After slapping a valuation close to €80 million, Tottenham want to give Van de Ven a bumper new deal. The Netherlands international is currently on £90,000 gross per week at N17, but the report adds a new deal would see an improvement in his salary as the club looks to take a fresh approach following Daniel Levy’s exit last month.

Tottenham must do everything to keep hold of Van de Ven amid strong European interest
Van de Ven still has four years left on his current deal (Transfermarkt), which ideally should not bother Tottenham. However, given the rising European interest in the left-footed centre-back, it is imperative the Hotspur Way chiefs hand him a bumper new deal that sees a drastic improvement in his wages.
The 24-year-old being included in the five-man leadership group is a clear signal how highly Frank rates him and wants him to continue growing in stature at White Hart Lane. Van de Ven is perfectly suited to the Dane’s tactical setup and talks over a new deal suggests Tottenham have no intention of losing him in 2026 and beyond.
It is good to see the club are showing a proactive approach and want to secure Van de Ven’s future. If he does commit to a new bumper deal amid interest from clubs such as Real Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea, it would represent a massive statement.
