Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea prepare to battle it out for Antoine Semenyo’s signature
Tottenham have endured a fantastic start to the new season under Thomas Frank. The Lilywhites are unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions, winning four and drawing the remaining three matches. Not only that, but their impressive run of form has seen the club jump up to third on the Premier League table, just two points behind league leaders Arsenal.
Despite the positive start to the new campaign, there are still some glaring issues on the pitch that the North London club failed to address in the summer transfer window. One issue that particularly concerns Thomas Frank right now is the lack of options for the left-wing position.

Fans were expecting Spurs to make a move for a new left-winger once Heung-Min Son announced that he was ending his ten-year stint at N17. However, Daniel Levy and Co. chose to stick with their current crop of players to fill the void left behind by the South Korean instead. In hindsight, that decision seems to be backfiring, with Frank now struggling to find a consistent option on that flank.
Tottenham might end up losing out on Antoine Semenyo
There is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to correct their summer oversight by signing a new left-winger in the January transfer window. The Lilywhites are keen to bring in a player who can make an immediate impact and seamlessly fit into Thomas Frank’s system. Given how crucial wide players are in the Danish tactician’s tactical setup, identifying the right profile is absolutely essential.
Recent reports suggest that Spurs are willing to bring in Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo in the coming months. The Lilywhites have been long-time admirers of the Ghana international and are willing to break the bank for his signature. Not only that, but the 25-year-old is also open to head for pastures new if the right project comes along.
However, Tottenham’s pursuit of Semenyo has hit a significant obstacle now. As per Fichajes, London rivals Chelsea are preparing to jump the line and make an audacious attempt to lure the prolific attacker to Stamford Bridge. The Blues are said to be preparing an offer worth around €90m for the Ghanaian’s signature.
The aforementioned report also states that Bournemouth might get tempted to accept the offer as it would significantly improve their financial conditions for a long time. Chelsea want to make Antoine Semenyo the face of the project under Enzo Maresca, further signifying how highly they rate the prolific attacker.
Securing Semenyo would undoubtedly strengthen Spurs’ attacking options and add much-needed dynamism to their frontline. The question remains – will Spurs test the waters with a competitive bid of their own, or will they shift their focus to alternative targets? Only time will tell.
