Date:

Tottenham Hotspur star Mohammed Kudus has been picked for Alan Shearer’s Team of the Week

Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to break their long-standing tradition of avoiding transfer dealings with West Ham United is proving to be a masterstroke. The Lilywhites stunned the footballing world in the summer when they announced the signing of Mohammed Kudus from their London rivals. The move initially raised eyebrows among supporters and pundits alike. Many questioned whether the Ghanaian international could handle the step up in expectations that comes with playing for Spurs.

But it’s fair to say Kudus has silenced his critics in emphatic fashion, delivering a blistering start to his Tottenham career. The electric winger announced himself in style, registering two assists on his home debut against Burnley on the opening day of the Premier League season. That performance proved to be just the beginning of a run of impressive displays that have quickly endeared him to the Spurs faithful.

Mohammed Kudus managed to break his duck for Tottenham following an impressive performance against Leeds United.

Kudus has carried that momentum from week to week, but his standout performance came this past weekend against Leeds United. The 25-year-old notched his fourth assist of the campaign by setting up Mathys Tel for the opener, before finding the back of the net himself to give Spurs the lead — his first goal for the club.

Mohammed Kudus was the standout player for Tottenham against Leeds United

Thanks to Mohammed Kudus’ heroics this weekend, Tottenham managed to beat an in-form Leeds United in their own backyard in the Premier League. The Ghanaian was at the heart of everything positive for the Lilywhites going forward, repeatedly tormenting defenders and creating chances with ease. Unsurprisingly, he capped off the match with a Man of the Match performance.

His display certainly did not go unnoticed, with Alan Shearer naming him in his Premier League Team of the Week. Writing in his column for the league’s official website, Shearer said,

“Leeds simply couldn’t stop Kudus as he scored the winner at Elland Road – his first goal for Spurs – after assisting Mathys Tel’s opener.”

As Alan Shearer rightly pointed out, Leeds United were finding it really hard to contain Mohammed Kudus. The Ghana international was bound to open his account for the club sooner or later. But the fact that it came away from home in a must-win game made it even more special. His goal sealed the deal for Spurs as they climbed up the league table to third position.

Now, the 25-year-old must aim to build on this performance and become consistent in front of goal. Spurs rely heavily on his attacking output under Thomas Frank, so it is important for Kudus to continue his fine form and play to his strengths as the season progresses.
