Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa
Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring in highly-rated young players and develop them in N17. The Hotspur Way bosses aim to keep up the transfer strategy that Daniel Levy implemented in the final years as the club’s chairman.
Spurs remain keen to back their new boss Thomas Frank in the transfer market in the future. They have enjoyed a fantastic start to the 2025/26 season and are unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions, winning four and drawing the remaining three. This impressive form has seen Thomas Frank’s side climb up to third in the Premier League table, just two points behind league leaders Arsenal.
Despite the positive start to the new campaign, there are still some blatant issues on the pitch that the North Londoners must address in the next transfer windows to compete realistically on all fronts. One issue that particularly concerns Thomas Frank right now is a regular source of goals.
After bagging a brace in the opening weekend against Burnley and scoring in the 2-2 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion last month, Richarlison’s productivity has dried up. Dominic Solanke has recently undergone minor ankle surgery which ruled him out for the foreseeable future, while on-loan striker Randal Kolo Muani has barely played due to dead leg issue in recent weeks.

Tottenham ‘serious candidate’ for FC Porto striker
As such, it is not surprising that Frank is already on the hunt for a new goalscorer. According to a report from Spanish outlet EstadioDeportivo, Tottenham are serious about signing FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa. Spurs have him on their priority list, although the outlay won’t be cheap. The 21-year-old has a €100 million release clause in his contract, and FC Porto won’t make it easy for the north Londoners to get him.
Samu Aghehowa landed in FC Porto from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024 in a complex transaction. FC Porto initially purchased 50% of his rights for €15 million, with options to get more shares later. Over time, the Dragons activated these clauses, eventually gaining 100% control of the striker’s transfer after paying a total package of €32 million, the report adds.
The Spaniard enjoyed a fantastic debut season with FC Porto, bagging 27 goals in all competitions. Samu has established himself as one of the dangerous young strikers in Europe right now, and he has started the new season strongly with five goals in seven games– despite an early injury that kept him out for a couple of fixtures.

Samu would be a smashing long-term investment for Spurs
Samu combines raw pace, physicality and power with sharp finishing, demonstrating since last season that he can score all kinds of goals. The Spanish international is an extremely hard worker off the ball and can press relentlessly, qualities that would make him a good fit in Frank’s system at Spurs.
At 21, the Porto marksman still has their peak years ahead and can be moulded into a star under Frank’s watchful guidance and vision. The lack of reliability among the current strikers at White Hart Lane has only heightened the need to invest heavily on a prolific goalscorer in 2026, and Samu would be a fantastic long-term option.
However, the only way Tottenham could persuade Porto into selling their prized asset in 2026 is by digging deep into their pockets.
