Tottenham Hotspur were dealt seismic blow in August when it was revealed that James Maddison has sustained a serious knee injury. The club confirmed that the playmaker has suffered an ACL injury and will miss several months of action after undergoing surgery.
James Maddison was expected to play a crucial role in Thomas Frank’s side, but may well find himself sidelined for the best part of the 2025/26 campaign. There is nothing worse than seeing a player of your team sustaining a serious injury and getting ruled out for the long-term before the campaign even started. But that is what happened to the 28-year-old and he vows to come back stronger.
The creative midfielder’s injury came at the worst possible time. Not only has he missed a chance to impress the new Spurs boss, but also his hopes of being in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for next year’s World Cup has been severely dented.

Now with the players from different clubs having teamed up with their respective countries for the international break, Spurs fans have got an interesting injury update from Maddison.
The Englishman appears to be putting in considerable effort during his recovery process – sharing an update via his Instagram account on Monday. “0 resistance BFR (Blood Flow Restriction). If you know the struggle, you know the struggle,” he posted, accompanied by a laughing face emoji. He was exercising his right leg on a leg extension machine.
Last month, Maddison shared a video of him training with an exercise ball. He has been seen putting all his weight on the injured leg, which is are positive signs for Tottenham and the fans. This shows that the midfielder has already made steady progress, only a couple of months after sustaining a torn ACL.

Maddison could be ahead of his recovery schedule
Maddison moved to Tottenham from Leicester City in 2023. He netted 12 goals across 45 appearances for the north London outfit last season, playing a crucial role in the club’s Europa League success even though he was unfortunate to miss out on playing the final against Manchester United in Bilbao.
The Coventry-born star already training with an exercise ball and working in the gym suggest he’s ahead of his recovery schedule from an ACL injury. ACL ruptures are known as one of the worst injuries in football, and Spurs are no strangers to it, so it is tricky to put a timeframe on his return. He appears to be putting in considerable effort during his recovery process.
Maddison is highly unlikely to return this year, though he could potentially come back in the latter stages of the season should his rehabilitation progress smoothly.
