Tottenham target Antoine Semenyo receives glowing praise from Alan Shearer following a fantastic start to the new season
Tottenham Hotspur entered October’s international break on the back off a morale-boosting 2-1 win over Leeds United.
After drawing three consecutive games in all competitions, there was frustration within the Spurs camp and among the fanbase. On Saturday, Thomas Frank and Co. got back to winning ways by beating Leeds United at Elland Road thanks to goals from Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus. The victory lifted them to third in the table, two points behind league leaders Arsenal.
Despite the positive start to the new campaign, there are still some glaring issues on the pitch that Tottenham failed to address during the summer transfer window. One area of concern that Thomas Frank has right now is the left-wing position.
None of Wilson Odobert, Brennan Johnson or Mathys Tel have managed to lock the left-wing position, while Frank has also tried out summer signing Xavi Simons to find a solution. The lack of investment in that spot is starting to cause problems for Spurs now.

Ex-Premier League striker raves about Tottenham target Antoine Semenyo
To address their left-wing issues in the summer, Tottenham tried their best to sign Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo. Thomas Frank and the club had identified the African attacker as the ideal replacement for Son Heung-min and made numerous phone calls in the final days of the transfer window to secure his signature. However, he decided to stay put, signing a new contract at the Vitality Stadium instead.
The decision to stay and continue at Bournemouth has worked very well for Semenyo. The Ghanaian international has been on fire since the start of the season, netting six goals and supplying three assists in seven Premier League appearances thus far. The 25-year-old has truly been the inspiration behind the Cherries’ climb to fourth spot in the Premier League.
Last week, Semenyo was the difference-maker in Bournemouth’s 3-1 home win over Fulham. The winger scored twice to inspire the turnaround, first drawing his side level with a powerful strike before sealing the victory on the counter-attack with a composed left-footed finish.
Delighted with his rich vein of form, ex-Premier League striker Alan Shearer included Semenyo in his Team of the Week, praising his consistency and growing influence at Bournemouth. Writing in his column for the league’s official website, Shearer said:
“Scored an outstanding brace to continue his incredible start to the season. Semenyo has gone to another level for Bournemouth.”

Tottenham ready to revive interest in Semenyo
There is no doubt that Tottenham are seething within themselves due to their failure to land Semenyo in the summer. Confidence is bursting through his veins right now and it would be fair to suggest that the Bournemouth winger is currently among the best players in the Premier League right now.
Tottenham are ready to reignite their interest in signing Semenyo in January as they look to address their left-wing conundrum. However, they face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United for the Cherries ace’s signature. As he signed a new improved deal earlier this month and is happy at the Vitality Stadium, the south coast club are under no pressure to sell him. This means it would take a fortune to tempt Bournemouth into selling their prized asset in 2026.
With that in mind, will Tottenham show their ambition and test the waters with a strong bid for Semenyo when the transfer window reopens in January? Only time will tell.
