RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund closely monitoring Tottenham star

RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are keeping tabs on Tottenham talent Luka Vuskovic’s performances on loan at HSV Hamburger

Luka Vuskovic officially arrived at Tottenham Hotspur in July this summer following his 18th birthday, joining his teammates at White Hart Lane almost two years after his transfer was rubber-stamped.

The teenager impressed during the pre-season under Thomas Frank, before the decision was eventually taken to loan him out for the campaign. There were several clubs willing to take him on loan but he joined newly-promoted Bundesliga club HSV Hamburger in August.

Luka Vuskovic, bar his poor debut in the 5-0 thrashing of Bayern Munich, has been thriving in the Bundesliga. The centre-back has completed the full 90 minutes in each of his four appearances for HSV Hamburger. He has played a big role in tightening up Hamburg’s defensive unit, helping the team keep back-to-back clean sheets against Union Berlin and Mainz.

RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund keeping close tabs on Luka Vuskovic’s performances at Hamburg

Vuskovic’s performances in a Hamburg shirt has unsurprisingly gone unnoticed. According to a report from TEAMtalk, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are closely watching the Tottenham loanee’s performances in the Bundesliga.

Hamburg are set to face RB Leipzig after the international break before hosting Borussia Dortmund in the first week of November, which will the two clubs to watch the teenage prodigy’s performances from close quarters. In fact, the German duo have been keeping tabs on the Croat’s progress through his early years, the aforementioned report adds.

Vuskovic is highly regarded in the Tottenham offices, viewing him as a long-term project. The Lilywhites’ plan has been to give the defender time to grow and develop through experiences at the highest level. However, any potential future opportunities to play at a higher level than Hamburg is only likely to grow if Vuskovic continues to showcase his potential at Volksparkstadion.

Tottenham considering Luka Vuskovic recall in January

Tottenham may recall Vuskovic from Hamburg loan in January

With a recall option in place as part of the Hamburg loan deal, the prospect of Vuskovic returning to Tottenham in January itself cannot be ruled out. The Hotspur Way chiefs will be delighted with Vuskovic’s progress so far at Volksparkstadion, as he has already become an integral part of Merlin Polzin’s side.

However, they are reportedly considering recalling him in January as well as adding a centre-back to Thomas Frank’s ranks in January. If the likes of Dortmund and Leipzig intensify their interest and come knocking for his services on loan, Spurs could be tempted to call Vuskovic back from his Hamburg loan and send him to a far more competitive club with European ambitions. It would also give the towering Croat to test himself at a bigger stage where the scrutiny is a lot more than playing for Hamburg.

As he has emotional ties with Hamburg, Vuskovic would want to spend the entire season working under Merlin Polzin before deciding his next step in the summer. This is exactly what the Spurs talent said when he was asked about his future plans last month.
