Xavi Simons needs to make an impact sooner rather than later as Tottenham Hotspur retain faith
Tottenham deserve plenty of praise for their impressive summer business. The Lilywhites brought in several top-quality players to strengthen the squad, including Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, and Randal Kolo Muani to bolster the attack. They also secured the signings of Joao Palhinha and Kota Takai to add experience and depth at the back.
So far, Kudus and Palhinha have enjoyed bright starts to life at N17 under Thomas Frank. Both players have seamlessly adapted to the Danish manager’s system and have made a consistent impact in the Premier League. Their arrivals have undoubtedly raised the overall quality of the squad and helped maintain the momentum following last season’s Europa League triumph.

However, one player still trying to find his rhythm at Tottenham is Xavi Simons. The Dutchman arrived at Hotspur Way during the summer with high expectations, but he has yet to fully showcase his talent under Frank. Although he registered an assist on his debut against West Ham, the 22-year-old has struggled to build on that promising start and make a lasting impression in the weeks since.
Tottenham remaining patient with Xavi Simons right now
There’s no denying Simons’ quality. Once he settles into rhythm, his creativity and technical ability can make a huge difference for Spurs. It’s likely only a matter of time before he rediscovers his confidence and begins to make a regular impact in the Premier League. For now, the 22-year-old continues to adapt to Frank’s tactical setup, while the manager experiments to find his best position on the pitch.
When asked about Simons’ development so far, Tottenham’s Sporting Director Johan Lange offered a measured perspective during the club’s Fan Forum. He said,
“For Xavi, obviously he has great experience already in his career. But still, he’s very young. We have to remember that. He’s a versatile player. Of course he can play both, in the #10 position and off the left wing.”
The Sporting Director added,
“His great skill is his creativity and his eye for his teammates. But we know that coming into the Premier League sometimes takes a little bit of time to adapt. But we have high, high hopes for Xavi here at the club.”
Lange’s comments perfectly sum up the situation. Simons remains a young player adjusting to the demands of the Premier League, and patience will be key. His versatility, vision, and creativity are exactly why Spurs invested heavily in him over the summer. And those attributes will undoubtedly shine through as he gains confidence and familiarity with the league’s intensity.
For now, the focus for Simons should be on taking each game as it comes and giving his all for the badge. He has looked promising when deployed in his natural role, and it will be up to Thomas Frank to find a system that allows the Dutchman to flourish as a true No.10. Once that happens, Tottenham fans can expect to see the best of Xavi Simons sooner rather than later.
