Newcastle United and Aston Villa to compete with Tottenham Hotspur for Samu Aghehowa
Tottenham Hotspur are a work in progress under Thomas Frank this season, despite losing only two of their opening twelve matches in all competitions. The Lilywhites have shown clear signs of improvement in several areas, but there are still key issues that need to be addressed if they are to close the gap on their rivals and compete with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.
Chief among those concerns is the #9 position. It has become increasingly evident that the North London club lack a prolific goal-scorer who can provide a consistent threat up front. The lack of cutting edge in the final third has frustrated supporters, and many are beginning to lose patience with Tottenham’s current centre-forward options under Thomas Frank.

Richarlison has failed to build on his promising start to the campaign, and his confidence appears to be at an all-time low. The Brazilian could even be on his way out in January if he doesn’t manage to turn his form around soon. Meanwhile, Dominic Solanke’s injury problems persist as he continues to recover from an ankle issue. Many fans also remain unconvinced that the Englishman has what it takes to lead the line for a club with Tottenham’s ambitions, especially if they are to compete across multiple competitions this season.
Tottenham keen on signing Porto star Samu Aghehowa in January
Recent reports suggest Tottenham have identified Porto striker Samu Aghehowa as the ideal long-term solution to the attacking problems at N17. The Lilywhites believe he is the right fit for Thomas Frank’s system and are willing to make an offer for him in January if the 21-year-old is available in the market for a reasonable price. Frank is also eager to strengthen his attack and would welcome the Spaniard’s arrival in the coming months.
The talented striker has shown time and again that he deserves to be playing on the big stages regularly. As per Sofascore, Samu has already scored five goals in just nine matches this season. This basically means that he is showing no signs of slowing down and is willing to reach his potential as quickly as possible.
However, landing the 21-year-old may not be as easy as it sounds for the Lilywhites. As per A Bola, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also interested in signing the Porto striker and are willing to pull out all stops for his signature. Both clubs want to add more depth to their attacking front, and signing Samu seems to be the most realistic option.
It remains to be seen how Tottenham approach the situation in the coming months. The Lilywhites could alternatively opt for a short-term solution by targeting Ivan Toney from Al Ahli in January. Bringing in the England international would save the club a significant amount in transfer fees, and he could also slot seamlessly into Thomas Frank’s system at N17.
