Tottenham target Victor Osimhen closing in on Napoli transfer
According to reputed journalist and transfer expert Nicolo Schira, Lille striker Victor Osimhen, who had been linked with Tottenham, is close to joining Serie A outfit Napoli.
Osimhen, 21, moved to Lille only last summer from Belgian outfit RSC Charleroi. And the Nigerian striker enjoyed a spectacular debut campaign at the club, finishing with 18 goals and 6 assists in 38 matches. He has been prolific for the Nigerian national team as well, bagging four goals in eight games.
Osimhen’s exploits with Lille had seen him emerge as a transfer target for a number of clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs’ lack of depth in centre-forward department was brutally exposed this season after Harry Kane picked up an injury in January. The club had allowed both Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen to leave last summer. As a result, there were no options at the manager’s disposal to fill in for the England captain.
Injuries to Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn soon after only served to weaken Mourinho’s attack further. Thus, it goes without saying that a new striker is very much needed at Tottenham.
Osimhen, to that end, would have been a fine addition. However, it seems as if the 21-year-old Nigerian is set to join Napoli in the summer. The update from Schira claims that the striker will be handed a five-year contract, with the two clubs now working on finalising the transfer fee.
#Napoli are in very advanced talks with Victor #Oshimen. He is the first choice of #Gattuso as a striker to replace #Milik. For him is ready 5-years contract. De Laurentiis is working to reach an agreement with #Lille. #transfers

It was always unlikely that Osimhen would join Tottenham, with his agent hinting that the striker wouldn’t want to play second-fiddle to Harry Kane. The Nigerian international’s transfer to Napoli, could in turn, pave the way for us to sign Arkadiusz Milik, who is a reported target for us.
