Dimitar Berbatov jokes about providing backup to Harry Kane
During an exclusive interview with Football.london, former Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov jokingly offered his services to the club to ease their attacking woes.
It is no secret that Tottenham Hotspur are in the dire need of a new centre-forward at the moment. Apart from star striker Harry Kane, manager Jose Mourinho has no other options for the No. 9 role. While the likes of Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn can play through the middle, they are not naturals in the position.
Going into the new season without a backup for the England captain could be suicidal to our hopes of a top four push.
Tottenham have been linked with a number of players in recent weeks to address this issue. However, the club hasn’t been able to bring in any players as of yet, with Callum Wilson joining Newcastle United while Ollie Watkins has signed for Aston Villa.
And Berbatov, who retired from the game less than a year ago, has joked about offering his services to help the club resolve the problem. (h/t Football.london)
“Maybe we’re a bit too similar in that he [Kane] likes to drop back, get the ball and pass it to his team-mates. He’s not always up front and he’s not selfish in that way, which I like a great deal and he scores goals. But I can be a good back-up at my age! I am pushing 40 though!”

Berbatov spent two seasons at Tottenham and scored 46 goals in 102 games, while setting up 24 more as well. He was a part of the last Tottenham team that won a trophy – the League Cup in 2008.
The Bulgarian played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last year, and scored for Spurs Legends in a test event match against Inter Milan legends. Perhaps, Daniel Levy & Jose Mourinho should call up the hitman?
Kidding aside, with the season looming, Tottenham need to act fast and secure a new striker or risk being left behind once again.
