Michael Owen believes Tottenham Hotspur are in the race for the Premier League this season
Speaking on BT Sports (h/t The Metro), former English international Michael Owen believes Tottenham Hotspur have a realistic chance of winning the English Premier League this season.
Spurs made a poor start to the campaign as they lost to Everton. We have not lost on the domestic circuit since and are currently top of the English top-flight. Winning the title will put an end to a drought that extends all the way to 1961 when we last won the league.
Defensive solidity supplemented by the ruthless attacking duo of Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min has seen us rack up the points. There is yet a long way to go.
Despite our good start, we are just ahead of defending champions Liverpool on goal difference. Chelsea are not far behind while Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City cannot be written off.
Owen believes these four teams are the ones with a realistic shot at Premier League glory. While he adds that the Premier League is wide open, other big names such as Arsenal are struggling, while Manchester United and Leicester are struggling for consistency.
“I still narrow it down to four teams: Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea and Tottenham. Chelsea have a great shout.”
Jose Mourinho enjoyed an excellent summer window that saw him add to his squad. This new-found strength in key areas could make all the difference come the end of the season.
Despite being at the top, Spurs cannot afford to let their guard down. Chelsea are going from strength to strength while Liverpool will be greatly enhanced once their injured players return.
Tottenham
have been enjoying a purple patch so far. It is up to the manager and the players to ensure that it is more of a habit rather than a phase.More Tottenham Hotspur News
