Sami Khedira reveals Jose Mourinho advice amid Premier League speculations

Speaking to The Athletic (subscription required), Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira has opened up on the advice he received from Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho as he eyes a January move to the Premier League.

The 33-year-old Khedira played under Mourinho at Real Madrid, with the Portuguese signing him from VfB Stuttgart in 2010. Under him, the midfielder won the La Liga title as well as the Copa del Rey at the Spanish capital outfit.

While Mourinho left Real Madrid in 2013, Khedira stayed for two more years before signing for Juventus in 2015. The 2014 FIFA World Cup-winning midfielder tasted plenty of success in Italy as well, although has struggled with injuries and lack of game time over the past year.

In the final year of his contract with the reigning Italian champions, Khedira hasn’t played a single game this season. And the midfielder is eyeing a January transfer away from the club, preferably to the Premier League.

“The Premier League is still missing in my collection, to play there would be the icing on the cake. I’ve done extra sessions with fitness coaches to get myself ready for the pace and intensity in the Premier League.”

The German midfielder went on to reveal that he had sought Tottenham boss Mourinho’s opinion on a separate question related to his career, to which the Portuguese had told him to “follow his passion and emotions”. And based on that advice itself, Khedira has taken the decision to move to England.

“My gut instinct and passion tell me I need to play football, if possible in the Premier League. I’m working towards that.”

Khedira also went on to lavish praise on the Tottenham boss, commending his direct approach and insisted that he was very happy to see Mourinho do well at Spurs.

The 33-year-old has been linked with a potential January transfer to Tottenham. It now remains to be seen if he does end up linking with Mourinho at the club.
