Tottenham, Arsenal set to battle for Marcel Sabitzer

Speaking on his ‘Gab & Juls Show’ on ESPN (h/t Daily Mail), journalist Julien Laurens has claimed that Arsenal have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Marcel Sabitzer from RB Leipzig.

The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a switch to Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the January transfer window. Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche himself recently acknowledged the interest from Spurs in the Austrian midfielder. (h/t Daily Mail)

However, as per the latest update, our rivals Arsenal, too, have joined the pursuit of Sabitzer with the January transfer window almost upon us. (h/t Daily Mail)

Having been with RB Leipzig since 2014, Sabitzer has grown into an integral member of the team and is currently their captain. The 26-year-old was one of the top performers in the side that finished third in the Bundesliga last season while also making it as far as the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

However, Sabitzer’s contract with RB Leipzig stands to run out in the summer of 2022. Meaning the Austrian is in the final eighteen months of his contract, which has been the main reason behind speculations surrounding his future at the Saxony-based outfit. (h/t Daily Mail)

Leipzig remain hopeful of convincing him to sign a new contract. But, there have been reports claiming that Tottenham have already offered a four-and-a-half-year deal to sign him up in January and are soon set to open talks with Leipzig over a potential move.

Sabitzer, as per the report, is valued at around £45m. A move for him in January would no doubt bolster our chances of winning a trophy. But, it remains to be seen if Daniel Levy is prepared to sanction a move. Furthermore, the emergence of Arsenal may complicate matters by potentially driving up the price.
