Jose Mourinho reveals what this Tottenham star needs to do to start games regularly

Ange Postecoglou has completely frozen out Joe Rodon at Tottenham Hotspur.

Jose Mourinho urges patience from Tottenham star Joe Rodon amid lack of chances

According to Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that Joe Rodon has to do nothing but be patient to become a regular starter at the club.

Rodon arrived at Tottenham in the summer from EFL Championship outfit Swansea City. However, the young Welshman has found regular game time hard to come by under Mourinho and has had to make do with sporadic appearances coupled with warming the benches.

Things seemed to have taken a turn for the better for Rodon in January when he made successive starts against Sheffield United, Liverpool and Brighton. And even though he fared decently, the run of poor results saw Mourinho change things around in defence, leaving the Welshman out again.

Add to it, the fact that he was not registered for the UEFA Europa League in the winter registration period meant he has been deprived of any meaningful game time. Furthermore, Rodon has even failed to make the matchday squad for our last three league games.

Mourinho, however, has sympathised with his situation, praising his attitude in training. The Portuguese manager also urged Rodon to stay patient and wait for his chances to come.

“He has to do nothing. He cannot play in the Europa League so that makes his chances reduced, in relation to the other guys. Centre-back is a position where of course if he was in the Europa League he would have lots of chances to play in these 11 matches that we did.

“There’s nothing. He’s perfect, works very hard, young guy, wants to learn, very enthusiastic. He played already matches that represent a lot, he played important matches against some of the best teams. He has just to wait for his opportunities and to get it.”

Since arriving in the summer, Rodon has made just nine appearances for Tottenham in all competitions. It remains to be seen whether that improves in the coming weeks or not.
