Former Tottenham man wants club to sign Yves Bissouma from Brighton
Paul Stewart spoke to This is Futbol (h/t football.london) and urged Tottenham Hotspur to take a look at Brighton and Hove Albion’s Yves Bissouma.
A report from Express, as covered by TTLAB earlier this summer, stated that Manchester City and Tottenham could battle it out for Bissouma. But things have been quiet since then, and there is nothing to indicate that Spurs made any formal attempt to sign him.
The Mali international came to England three years ago after the Seagulls agreed to pay a fee that could rise to £17million. It is safe to say they have had their money’s worth as he has been a consistent performer since then.
Harry Winks is linked with a move away from Spurs this summer, and according to Stewart, the 24-year-old Issia-born midfielder would make for a decent replacement.
“I think he’s a quality player and I’d love Spurs to get him. He’s 24 and Brighton did ever so well but he was a standout player. Bissouma stood out more than any of them.”
Should Spurs target Yves?
If Spurs take Stewart’s advice and pursue Bissouma, they wouldn’t be alien to his abilities on the pitch. The enforcer played the full 90 minutes in an impressive showing against the Lilywhites in January 2021 where Brighton won 1-0 at The Amex.
The club, in all honesty, shouldn’t be devastated if they fail to bring in a midfielder even if they lose out on Winks. Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg is a sure-shot starter in the middle after an immense 12 months of football behind him.
