Tottenham Hotspur boss, Antonio Conte, is a proven winner.

Antonio Conte joined Tottenham Hotspur after he understood that Manchester United preferred Mauricio Pochettino as manager

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Antonio Conte decided to join Tottenham Hotspur after he understood that Manchester United preferred appointing Mauricio Pochettino.

The Italian boss assumed the hot seat in the white half of North London this month. He has started his tenure brilliantly by picking up two victories out of three games. However, they were doubts regarding whether he would take the job in the first place.

The former Inter Milan manager was heavily linked to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, the United board had doubts about his temperament and chose against hiring him, according to The Metro

However, a major turn-off for Conte was United’s preference for the former Argentina international as their long-term option for the managerial position. This apparently escalated his decision to join Spurs instead as he replaced Nuno Espirito Santo.

Man United’s loss is Tottenham’s gain?

Nuno Espirito Santo never felt like the right appointment, and he was never our first choice. Several managers were linked with the vacancy before Daniel Levy appointed the Portuguese at the helm. The dire attacking display and the lack of a stringent defence led to Nuno’s sacking just four months into the job.

Spurs needed somebody to guide them to win the biggest trophies in the land. From what it looks like right now, we won the jackpot by hiring Conte. The Italian led Juventus to multiple Serie A titles before guiding Inter Milan to their first Scudetto in a decade last season.

His managerial displays in England with Chelsea were also exemplary, to say the least. And Tottenham have hired him at the right time. Levy recruited Fabio Paratici as well this year, who has already shown his negotiating prowess by bringing in exciting talent this summer. Not to mention, the duo also worked together at Juventus during their time in Serie A.

Thus, the stars are aligning for us, and Conte now needs to stamp his footprint on this team. Man United, on the other hand, are still searching for a replacement to Solskjaer.

And without any disrespect to Pochettino, who had his time in the sun at N17 with Spurs, Conte seems like the manager that can finally lead us to our first trophy since 2008. There won’t be many Lilywhites fans that would be unhappy with the club’s decision to appoint Conte, either.
