Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur reignite their interest in Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez
According to transfer news on Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their interest in Cagliari ace Nahitan Nandez ahead of the upcoming January Transfer window.
The midfielder joined the Italian club in 2019 and has since continued to impress. Last season, Nandez was instrumental in helping them avoid relegation and contributed five goals in 32 league appearances. Spurs were interested in signing him this summer, but a move failed to get off the ground.
However, it looks like the North London outfit are set to rekindle their interest in the 26-year-old next January. Not only are Cagliari willing to let the player leave, but they are also open to overlooking his £36million release clause.
Nandez’s agent, Pablo Bentancur, revealed a few weeks ago that the club president had promised him that they will allow the player to leave after the end of 2021. This is good news for Tottenham who can do with some steel in the middle of the park.
However, the London club will face competition from the likes of Inter Milan and Napoli. Whether Antonio Conte’s arrival will make the Lane a preferred destination for Serie A stars remains to be seen.
Strength in numbers!
Over the last two years, Tottenham have parted ways with the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Moussa Dembele and Gedson Fernandes (loan terminated), without bringing in enough reinforcements. Adding Nandez into the mix will give Conte more options for the second half of the season.
Due to this, Antonio Conte only possesses Harry Winks, Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp, and Tanguy Ndombele in his central midfield ranks at this moment in time. Dele Alli could also feature there, but he has not found a lot of success in that role.

It also bodes well for us that Nandez can play as a right-winger as well. This versatility could prove useful when never a formation change is in order.
Nandez will add much-needed depth to the squad and help Spurs compete actively on multiple fronts. We did not have the best start to the season but are still within touching distance of the Top 4. Winter additions could make the difference come to the final standings this season.
