Brentford to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Gremio star Vanderson

According to UOL (h/t Burnley Express), Brentford are set to sign Gremio defender Vanderson by beating Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United in the transfer race.

He has played 59 matches for the Brazilian side and has scored five goals with three assists to add to it. Having made the breakthrough from the youth system to the first team earlier this year, he has quickly become a crucial part of his team.

The 20-year-old is expected to join Thomas Frank’s side for a potential fee of £12 million, beating Spurs and Newcastle in the process. That would be a blow for Antonio Conte, who could have used with some additions on the right side.

The Brazilian is known for his direct set-piece prowess and dribbling. This alongside his passing skills and tackling abilities makes him an all-action star. His profile would have been a great addition to the Tottenham squad had we signed him in the coming transfer windows.

Emerson Royal was signed this summer from Barcelona for a fee worth £25.8million. While he has been solid so far, the Spurs ace has not reached the quality and performance that he had shown at Real Betis.

Matt Doherty had not fared well since moving from Wolverhampton Wanderers to N17 and has been unable to get into Conte’s side so far. We will need some reinforcements in the right-back position if there is any ambition to challenge for trophies in the years to come.

The heavyweights in the league have quality in their depth, which is not the case for us. Since we have lost the race for the Brazilian defender, Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici would need to do better in assisting the Italian manager in getting the desired targets.

We may have lost this transfer race, but we should ensure this does not get repeated moving forward. That is especially the case with the winter transfer window drawing close when we would face more competition.
