The agent of Lorenzo Insigne comments on interest from Tottenham Hotspur
According to Corriere Dello Sport (h/t Football.London), The agent of Lorenzo Insigne recently suggested that he would make contact with concerned teams in January amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
The Italian has been one of the stand out players in Serie A for the last few seasons. In his previous two seasons, he bagged 19 and 13 goals, respectively. Due to some short-term injury issues, he missed a few games this season. However, he still managed to score four goals and provided five assists in the Italian first division.
Despite his long term tie with the Gli Azzurri, his future with the Italian club is in massive doubt. The 30-year-old forward is in the final year of his contract term and would be eligible to get into pre-contractual talks with any foreign teams from January.
Nevertheless, despite knowing the threat, I Partenopei hasn’t been successful in binding him to a new deal. It is believed that the renewal talks have reached a dead-end in recent times.
Amid such a situation, when asked about the Italian forward’s future, his agent hinted that a stay in Napoli is not the only possibility.
“We can’t say [what happens next]; in football, everything can change in ten minutes.”
On the other hand, Insigne has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham in recent times. When explicitly asked about the possibility of the Napoli star ending up in North London, his agent didn’t rule out the possibility but suggested he’d only approach a foreign club after the new year.
“I won’t have contact with anyone until January. On this, I am very firm from the 2nd [of January], then, everything will change.”
Heung-min Son has been the top scorer for Spurs this season. Lucas Moura has also assisted in the goalscoring department. However, Harry Kane has remained quiet in the North London team’s jersey.
On the other hand, Tottenham has scored the least number of goals among the ‘big six’ clubs. Thus there is a shortage of goalscoring players in Antonio Conte’s squad.
