Team News: Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte provides update on Sergio Reguilon injury
According to Football. London, Antonio Conte, speaking in his latest press conference, suggested that Tottenham Hotspur full-back Sergio Reguilon hasn’t fully recovered ahead of the Liverpool clash.
Sergio Reguilon has given some convincing performances this season. The Spaniard was a starter under Nuno Espírito Santo and even after the arrival of Antonio Conte, his place hasn’t been threatened. The 25-year-old left-back has provided one goal and three assists in 13 league matches this season.
However, his injury against Norwich City raised concerns for the Italian manager after the Spain international was substituted in the 22nd minute of the game. All of Spurs’ games since then have been postponed and hence, his absence hasn’t been damaging for us. But with the game against Liverpool this weekend still on, we could have used his availability.
In his latest press conference, Antonio Conte suggested that even though Reguilon participated in the training session, there’s still some concern regarding his fitness, and he’d take some more time before gaining full-match fitness.
“We have a little problem with Sergio [Reguilon]. He’s having training sessions, but we don’t know if he’s 100 per cent fit for tomorrow’s game.”
Reguilon’s calmness and composure down the left flank has been a boon for us in some difficult defensive situations, while his talent in possession of the ball also helps us in transitioning from defence to attack with relative smoothness.
On the other hand, our club still hasn’t recovered fully from the Covid-19 crisis that ravaged the Spurs camp in the previous week. Some players are yet to return to training after completing self-quarantine terms. Thus, Antonio Conte is short on key players, and at this moment, every game would pose a hugely tricky situation when it comes to picking a solid starting lineup.

Reguilon’s availability could have made a big impact in these difficult times. However, we have to wait for some more time to get him back to full fitness. In the meantime, the good news is that he is taking part in the training sessions. Hopefully, one of Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon are available for selection come this weekend.
