Tottenham Hotspur battle Chelsea, Liverpool and Sheffield United to sign James Hill from Fleetwood Town
According to Sunderland Echo, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Sheffield United have shown an interest in signing James Hill from Fleetwood Town. He has gathered attention as a result of his excellent performances, and he could be subjected to a bidding war this month.
Sheffield United are in the pole position of the transfer race due to their previous affiliations with the 19-year-old’s father, Matt Hill. He has played for them during the twilight of his playing career, and they are looking to use that to their advantage to make their case.
James is currently out on the sidelines, having picked up an injury in early November. However, he has been sensational for Fleetwood this season and has become a regular because of his solid displays. He is expected to leave in the winter transfer window, and they have no urgency and are holding out for a high price as he has still has time left in his contract.
Who is James Hill?
The Englishman plays as a centre-back for the League One side and has racked up 53 appearances for them at the senior level. He has also got into the England U20 set-up and would be looking to build on his achievement moving forward.
Known for his promising ability to read the game well, the youngster is also very athletic, making him an exciting prospect for any team to have in their squad. He has also seen his name spread across Europe, with Barcelona sending their scout back in October for creating a profile.
If we are actively looking to sign the centre-back, we would need to get the better of the Championship side who have an advantage. Not to mention, the jump up to the second division would be natural in his progression, which further puts us in a tight spot.
As such, we would have to find other ways to ensure that the League One defender has an environment to grow moving forward. He is already playing at the senior level, meaning our academy set-up would not work. Our first team is also too early and is not the right step for him based on the current circumstances.

Meaning we may have to find clubs who will be open to taking the young starlet on loan if we get his signature. It remains to be seen how the situation would turn out this month but let’s hope that we are the ones who would be getting his services as it would be a long term boost for us.
