Transfer News: Lazio plot Tottenham Hotspur raid for Atalanta loanee Pierluigi Gollini
According to the Italian publication Corriere della Sera’s Roma edition [Print Edition] via Sport Witness (h/t Burnley Express), Lazio are planning to raid Tottenham Hotspur to sign Atalanta loanee Pierluigi Gollini in the summer transfer window. He could be in line to leave N17 at the end of this season, looking at the current circumstances.
Spurs signed Gollini from La Dea on a season-long loan last summer. That being said, they do possess an option to make the transfer permanent for a fee of £13million. He has not featured much for the English club, which probably means that they are unlikely to take up the option.
Supposedly, the 26-year-old has “convinced” Maurizio Sarri’s side to secure his signature from Gian Piero Gasperini’s team next summer. He already appears to have made up his mind about what will happen at the end of the current season. If he does depart, Tottenham will need to find an adequate replacement ahead of next term.
Gollini to leave?
The Italian has made ten appearances for this season, conceding 11 times while earning two clean sheets across all competitions for Tottenham. A chunk of his performances came in the UEFA Europa Conference League and its Qualifiers, having played six matches in that competition.
The La Dea loanee has not shown any signs to warrant more time with us in the future. Moreover, it would not make sense for Spurs to spend the quoted amount for a player who is unlikely to take over as the starting goalkeeper. Hence, a summer exit would not hurt us in any case as our resources can be put to better use elsewhere.
After all, there are quite a lot of areas that need to be bolstered to back Antonio Conte at the end of this campaign. That being said, we must make sure that an appropriate replacement can be found in the summer transfer window and do not want to see a similar situation to what happened with Harry Kane.

Fabio Paratici and co have failed to bring in an adequate backup to Kane, which in turn troubled us quite a lot this season. Facing a similar issue with Hugo Lloris will only make our life more difficult next summer.
Ideally, we would want to find someone who can offer long term solidity to us by taking over the reins from Lloris in the future. Whether the board can find someone like that or not remains to be seen.
