Manchester United enquired about Tottenham Hotspur talent Dane Scarlett before his contract renewal
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United had enquired about Tottenham Hotspur talent Dane Scarlett before his recent contract renewal. The former wanted to see whether the highly-rated centre-forward was available on a potential transfer move which prompted their advance.
Scarlett recently secured his long term future with Tottenham, having penned a new deal until 2026. He was nearing the end of his previous contract, which caused his club to act quickly to reach an agreement over an extension this Wednesday. Man United wanted to take advantage of this opportunity resulting in their attempt to sign the youngster.
The Red Devils’ departing director of football Matt Judge made the enquiry amidst the massive exodus that takes place this summer in their forward department. The contact was made last month, but Spurs responded by conveying that a renewal was already on the cards ending United’s pursuit.
Good outcome for Spurs!
The Mancunians’ interest is a nod to the quality that Scarlett possesses, as he has certainly made a name for himself at the youth level. After all, they would not have tried to see if he was available or not if not for his brilliant displays in our academy set-up.
Fortunately, a contract extension was already agreed upon at that point, which essentially put an end to the Manchester club’s transfer attempt. That is a great piece of news for us as we would not want to lose our brightest gems from the academy to our direct rivals and solidify their future by facilitating a move.
Scarlett is widely regarded by many supporters as one of their best young prospects alongside Alfie Devine. Losing the former like Dilan Markanday would have been a massive blow, but the fans would be delighted to see that the club counts on the attacker having agreed to a renewal.
Now, the North London side must focus their efforts on making sure that Scarlett can achieve the potential he has shown moving forward. That means carefully laying down plans for the Englishman’s development which would probably involve finding the right loan club soon enough.

After all, gaining experience at the senior level is crucial to ensure that the 18-year-old can take his game to newer heights in the future. Troy Parrott is doing that with MK Dons right now, so one would expect Antonio Conte’s side to do the same with Scarlett shortly.
The fans are hoping that Scarlett will be able to reach such a level by the time Harry Kane needs to be replaced in the future. Filling the boots of the England skipper would undoubtedly be a hefty challenge, but the teenager would have great chances of doing so if he could build on his current promise.
